Incidentally, you say Jesus rose from his grave and is now alive, so what's the big deal about him dying if he came back to life after three days, healthy and well? How much suffering did he suffer? What lasting harm was done?

There are people around you suffering more hurt every day than what you say Jesus suffered on the cross. They die for your sins too (called "neglect"), but you don't mourn them for even a second!

What's the big...deal? What lasting harm? Those who suffer more hurt?

Okay, here's the thing and the big deal. The Holy Son took on the sins of the world, so that we would be justified before the Father, in His Name, because of His sacrifice for our sake. Had he not come, we'd be condemned with no chance at salvation, but since He did come, salvation can be gained if we show true faith for what He's done.

The "lasting harm" is that He took on the burden of all people who will come to the Father in His Name, and He continues to do so, from the time of His coming to this very generation far off from then. Yes, He was resurrected the 3rd day, confirming all which He had told His Apostles, and showing for proof He was indeed the Son of the Most High, and also sealing all the faithful's redemption by our belief in all He's done, but that doesn't negate that He, the Son of the Most High, came down to our lowly state to take on our burdens, which weren't His. That's love of the Father and His love in the Father, also. It's a lesson as well as our hope for life as He has it.

And none have suffered like the Son has, because none can suffer like He has in full. We can suffer, but we cannot bear the burden He bears for us, for we cannot even bear our own, without being condemned to the very fires He salvages us from. So we need the Son, and we need to trust in the Son, have faith in the Son, and believe in the Son, so that'd we can forever be with the Son and our Father on High.
