Black People : Blacks should "Get Over Slavery"

Omowalex, capialism is not suppose to work for everyone, it is an everyman for himself system. That is why the government has instituted some socialist programs for those who can't make it in this system. Those programs help to balance things out.

As to why blacks don't make it, let's examine that. Too many of us don't bother to participate in the system's economic opportunitiies because they assume that the system won't let them succeed. Those who endeavor to succeed under capitalism, have a pretty good rate of success.

One only has to read some of the topics on this site to understand why blacks don't make it. Too many are talking about going back to Africa, a place that has not invited to come. There are very few topics about black enterprise. Too much concern for the criminal element, those that are in prison, on average, have committed numerous crimes against their own people. Lack of interest in education, no one is going to the schools to demand higher quality education. Lack of trust of each other, we steal from each other from a total lack of respect. The focus on slavery is on the brains of too many of us, you can't think about the future, if you are stuck in the past.

As to Homeland Security, it's just a job for me, I don't agree with many of things that are going on with that department, but I have a little more than a year left before I can retire, then I'll really let them have it.

Brother, I will hold my peace on this one, for now.

I was listening to Hillary Clinton's speech saturday and she stated that last year there were more bankruptcies than college graduates. I am certain that in both instances, the college graduates and the bankruptcies were mostly white folks. Amd with the dismatlement of many afrfirmative action programs, which have led to declining numbers of black college and university admissions, not to mention graduation rates, I dont quite see evidence of "programs that help to balance things out". However, perhaps I am missing something. It seems to me that economic opportunities must be available to take advantage of. One thing I do as I often travel through the south and southwest is look for evidence of industry and always ask myself what is it that people do to survive. Again, Hillary Clinton spoke concerning how the governemnt speaks concerning declining unemployment rates, but thats because more people are working in poor paying service sector jobs, a lot of whom are working part-time. A number of whom are not even able to pay for their own health insurance, which more companies are not providing coverage for.

One thing I do agree with is there does need to be more conversation conserning "black enterprise", and less on media sensationalism. Perhaps you can provide some leadership in this area.

Omowalex, thank you for your replies. Someone said that they will get over slavery when the jews get over the halocaust. Unfortunately, we often deferr our problems off into the black hole, instead of confronting them. The Jews don't have a "slave mentality", many black folks do. That is why so many of us are holding on to the slave issue. To let it go means we have to face life without any more excuses for failure.

Now on to the subject of economic empowerment. You said that you don't see that many opportunities throughout your travels. That's amazing, there are over twelve million illegal aliens in the US who see nothing but opportunity, some have become millionaires. The urban areas where black folks live are full of opportunities waiting to be taken advantage of. If we didn't have to contend with the criminals that make operating a business impossible, then we'd be half way there. Every business in the black community should be owned and operated by those people who live there, period. That is the way everyone else does it. The Jews and Asians cooperate with each other, and keep the money in their own communities. Many Asians come here with nothing and head straight to the black community to open a business and then take the money out of our community back to their own.

There are so many people in the world who see us as the most gullible people on earth. They can sell us anything, at any price, and it's okay as long as it doesn't have a black face on it. We need to own every house we live in, whether we are the actual owner's or tenant's. Rental properties suck up almost half of the money from the black community. Where does it go?

This tread is about getting over slavery. The truth is, we love being slaves and like to pretend that we don't like it, because it is in vogue. Getting over slavery means we must stop depending on "the man" for all of our necessities, but not many of us are willing to do this, so we get on the internet and put on a disguise and pretend we are about something, when we are not. This country has an abundance of opportunities. Let's start with New Orleans, instead of talking about FEMA's neglect, let take the bull by the horns and rebuild the city ourselves. Any takers? Or would you just rather wait for the white man to do it, and then cry racism when they don't invite you back?

You said the government hasn't put in place programs to help balance things out. Then you mentioned bankruptcy. That is a program to help keep people from going under. Some countries still have debtors prison for those who overextend. Then there is Welfare, Social Security, Unemployment insurance etc. This is not that bad a place to be, but as black people, we need to start being the charter of our own destiny, and stop looking back at the past.
