the air is heavy
with the weight of midnight
and a texture so thicke
it clouds my thoughts
and my sight

the smell of dense fog
reminds me of love jones
but i aint darius
and she aint nia long

this aint the movies
with guaranteed happy endings
this is the reality
of mixing lovers and feelings

we argue in circles
deep into the night
forgiveness can't be southpaw
when we both swear we're right
so resolution gets left
as we continue to fight

sorry remains silent
and never gets mentioned
we fall asleep
to the lullaby of
cold shoulders
regret
and tension

i'd love to hate her
especially now
as i dream with my eyes open
and watch the sun come out

but try as I may
the effort is in vain
she's the best enemy i've ever had
and i love her for the pain

i admire her insecurities
and how she's imperfect
so i’m going to work harder at being vulnerable
cause this love is worth it

plus the smell of breakfast dancing
as she cooks to our favorite tune
nourishes my soul
and puts me in a better mood

this thing will stay on track
though it may not be a straight line
midnight can be distracting
but
it doesn't take a whole day
to recognize sunshine
