Black Poetry : Darkness Falls

Darkness Falls

Darkness falls
Dreams
Haunting my sleep
Nightly

Imagine lifeless bodies
Until the eye can’t see anymore
Dead women holding
Their dead children

Massive graves
Condemning my sleep
Still smelling the sent
Of the burning corpses

I try to stay awake
Exhaustion fatigue
Have me falling
Asleep

Horrors of my life
Subdue me
Giving me countless
Images

Of dead corpses
Lying in the Somali heat
Where Blood gushes
In to the sand

These events
Have me waking
In cold sweat
Thus it begins

The tossing
The turning
Restless slumbers
In the night

They seem so real
Emotions of regret
Empower
My being

Bondage of life’s experiences
Taunting my wellness
From not resting like I should
Daily

Anger rules my life
Like an Iron hand
I try to overcome
But it’s helpless

Demons in my sleep
Playing on my thoughts
Sub-consciously they beat me
But still have not won

Realizing
No matter what
I will not be defeated
I am a survivor

Over coming wars
A torn body
Replaced knee cap
Yet I walk

Tumors and welts
Forming in and on my body
Being told that cancer is killing me
Yet I still breathe

I have won that battle
Illness
Sleepless nights
Trying to beat my happiness

Giving up is not an option
I love the feel of air
In my lungs
Expanding contracting

Like rhythms of congas
In a salsa beat
Making music
Of life’s air

Not giving a ****
What people say
Life is not theirs
To explain

Don’t come at me
With countless bull****
Life is hard enough
When dreams come to molest you

Still standing proud
Knowing who I am
What I am
A dream catcher

Catching bad dreams
In its webs
Allowing good ones
To pass

One of God’s chosen few
Traveling
Breathing life back
Into condemned lungs meager existence

Just think
I go through this
Each time
I close my eyes

I really really like this piece!
