What is it? In layman terms, melanin is the chemical found in melanocytes (pigment cells), which are all over the human body, and is produced by melantonin. Melatonin is the product of tyrosine (an amino acid) metabolism, which occurs in the pineal gland. Melantonin regulates the rhythm of the body known as the circadian rhythm. This rhythm is attuned to nature and the natural world. The pineal gland produces melantonin at night during the hours between 2:00-6:00 a.m. It is theorized that, at night, the pineal gland turns inward and sprays the brain with this substance. The pineal gland, some researchers say, is composed of crystal-like grandules similar to the crystal components of a cell phone. Crystal is widely known for receiving and storing energy, thus many believe the pineal gland acts as a receptor for energy. The human body's melanocytes are capable of storing the sun's rays, hence this is why skin cancer, cause by radiation from the sun's rays, is virtually unknown in heavily pigmented people, outside of its anti-free-radical abilities. Interesting, the pineal gland is equated with the "third eye" (spiritual eye) or the brow chakra of the chakra system. This chakra is known as the center for clairaudience and clairvoyence - spiritual communication.

Understanding this, there is no problem in comprehending why the Dogon believe in the reality of the Nommo. Or the Yoruba with the Orisa. Or the Kamau with the Neteru. Or the Akan with the Abosom. Or the Bakongo with the Nkisi. Or the Wolof-Lebu with the Rabbs. Or the Ewe-Fon with the Vodu. Or the Nubians, Hausa, Songhai and others with the Zar. These entities are real and have a profound impact on the condition of natural life, including humans. Afrikans actually are the direct descendants of the entities and lineages were birthed from them. My tradition is Vodou and my ancestors were the vodu. Essentially, I am Vodu and the mysteries of the Vodu are within me.

This is a little-known fact that Europeans do not want Afrikan people to know. For us to know the truth of our origin and heritage would bring Western civilization to a rapid halt.

WooWee...thanks for the eye opener on melanin. You have really enlightened me on this strange yet wonderful gland. I must admit however, that I admire it from a much different perspective than you do in that I appreciate it as a divine order at the hands of God rather than from the perspective of the half human-half fish creature that made it to Jupiter somehow and is waiting to return to earth.

You also said: This is a little-known fact that Europeans do not want Afrikan people to know. For us to know the truth of our origin and heritage would bring Western civilization to a rapid halt.

Question: How is it that Euros know about this little known fact and African people here in America don't?

Hello Joyce,

You wrote: "No, I was not aware that anyone here knew much about it. Moreover, as Sekehumu has pointed out, this thread is about melanin. Thus, that brings me to this question about something you said..."

Personally, I'm not a member or practitioner of the Dogon spiritual tradition, so of course, I'm not an expert. However, being a member of an ATR, I can unequivocally tell you, what many in the "western world" (as observers or monday morning quartebacks and not participants) would tell you are "mythic" are in fact, Real. You don't even have to believe in their (orisa, vodu, nkisi, nommo, neteru, abosom) reality in order for them to make themselves known to you. There is no mystic mental visualization taking place, but an actually physical manifestation of the Real. Also, the amazing knowledge that the Dogon possess about the heavens is really mind-boggling for them to be making up stuff.

The Dogon, notwithstanding their post-neolithic technology, have possessed for centuries a very detailed and albeit scientific cosmological knowledge that has eluded westerners until very recent. Their cosmology has touched upon the nature and movement of the heavens, stars not visible to the naked eye, an understanding of human genetic patterns and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) formation, and the plausibility of parallel universes, which is now being comfirmed by quantum physics. They also speak about the personality traits found in humans and described by most ATRs as circumscribed and dictated by different types of energy found in the universe. There's a certain thread that runs through all ATRs that can only be explained as due to melanin.

Blackbird: I stand behind the inherent greater spiritual qualities of Afrikan people worldwide via the medium of melanin - the universal organizing principle. I don't need research or books or expert dissemination to stand on because I have experiential, first hand knowledge to validate my conviction.

Joyce, you wrote: "Would you expound on this a little bit more. I'm not quite following you."

From my experience in the ATRs, Black people have a greater capacity for "passing" a spirit than white people do. Also, we are better at reading people, seeing what spirits they have behind them or what spirits are working with them. I have never seen a white person pass the spirit, but I did see my then soon-to-be wife, who was Christian at the time, attend a party (spiritual ceremony) with me and not even believing or participating in the party, actually get the "spirit." I have seen on many occasions, a testament of the inherently spiritual qualities of Black people, something most Christian are not privy to or wish to be privy to.

Basically, you will not follow me on this because your view of the world, in terms of its spiritual existence and reality, is different from mine. I was like you, seeing things from another culture's glasses, until my ancestors' called me and opened my eyes to the possibilites of the world, which is not as restricted or limited as most Westerners believe. No offence intended, just a reality I now know. I will say knowing what I know now, I could never be a Christian again, even if I wanted to. The predominately Christian thinking is too limited for the reality I now know exist.

Joyce you wrote: "What bird is this that's inside of my cells? Who is Ausar and Heru?"

The Sankofa bird statement I made was symbolic prose. It was meant to be informative, rhetorical, and signifying at once. However, the Sankofa bird is an Akan philosophical concept and is symbolized in their adinkra system of communication. Along with this concept is a proverb that says essentially, "It is not taboo to go back and fetch what you have forgot."

I was speaking about remembrance - remembrance of who we were/are as a group of people. Due to our common history, language, and origin, Afrikan-Americans constitute a nation of people, although we may have come from divergent ethnic groups in Africa. Essentially, bloodwise, we are truly Pan-Afrikan. However, due to conditioning and psycho-spiritual trauma we have faced in America, we were separated from our ancestral soul (sie), which has cause alot of the pathologies effecting us. In addition to this very damaging separation, we have divided ourselves into various factions, denominations and the like. So the call to Sankofa is remember, go back and fetch what we forgot or lost. Reclaim our past so we can control our future. Remember is also to re-member the dislocated ancestral soul, our sie, which helps to produce poverty, black on black crime, dysfunctional households and communities, etc. As we embark on this course of re-membering, we assume the role of Mama Auset, who re-member the dislocated pieces of Asar so she could give birth to child, who is the resurrection and the remembrance of the father.

Who is Asar/Ausar and Heru? I believe you already know that and if not maybe my brother Sekhemu can answer that for you.

Ase!

Thanks for sharing a very passionate part of your life with me. I appreciate and respect that. You mentioned something about "passing" a spirit. What do you mean by that? I understand clearly what it is to "see" what spirit is behind a person or to pick up on a spirit. In spiritual warfare one's senses are sharpened in this area after doing it for a while. I happen to be especially sensitive to what is known as "lying" spirits. These spirits are powerfully deceptive in the area of various religions with the ability to express what is called "dark" knowledge or in other words lying knowledge. However, I have never heard of the term "passing" a spirit. Is this similiar to casting out a demonic spirit???

You also said: I was like you, seeing things from another culture's glasses, until my ancestors' called me and opened my eyes to the possibilites of the world, which is not as restricted or limited as most Westerners believe.

While this may be true to some degree, I might add that I tend to be more sensitive and aware of God's presence upon me when He is stirring Himself in my "quiet time" and tend to see and walk in the spirit and mindset of Jesus Christ more so than that of western culture or any other culture for that matter.

This gives me a certain edge that many Christians are not privy to because so many tend to be carnal minded rather than spiritually mind. I have paid a price to be where I am in Christ and I wouldn't trade Him for nothing in the world, for He has shown Himself to be mighty in my life in so many miraculous ways. Thus I must guard those things which He has committed unto my trust in the realm of the spirit.

2 Corinthians 10
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

I Timothy 6:20

Greetings Joyce,

I would suggest perhaps you get off the amphibious kick and stop taking things so literally. I mean the description of the Nommo could have very symbolic representations we may fail to get by literalism. Jesus was called "the Lamb of God" and is sometimes represented by two fish (pisces). Imagine someone without much knowledge and understanding of Christianity hearing Jesus referred to as "the Lamb" and assuming Christians believe in a baby sheep as their savior. Even in Genesis, the snake talked. I don't see any snakes talking nowdays. Do you? Or how about woman coming from man via a rib?

No one ever said the Nommo is the reason Black people possess melanin. Definitely, I believe Olodumare blessed us with capability to be able to function in life harmoniously with our natural surroundings, intuned with the natural rhythm of ebb and flow - movement of ase.

You wrote: "Question: How is it that Euros know about this little known fact and African people here in America don't?"

They have study labs. They make pills from pineal gland tissue. They cut open pineal glands. They write reports and research papers based off of conclusions. Many of us don't know the first-thing about melanin, let alone know what is being discovered about it.

Greetings Joyce,

Passing a "spirit" is manifesting one. Bringing the spirit down so others can communicate with the spirit. We call our spirits down so we can talk with them, dance with them, eat with them and learn/grow.

Contrary to Christian belief, not all spirits are hurtful or harmful. Yes, there are very "dark" spirits and they should not be around you. They mean you much harm or no good. These spirits we remove in special ceremonies. My godbrother had a white spirit that was trying to kill him. Fortunately, it was removed and he's okay. However, everybody has helpful spirits around them, including Christians, that we call "egun." Your personal egun guide and protect you from harm. We learn how to work with these spirits to grow spiritually and progress in life. We gain "ase" by doing so. I don't think its "lying knowledge" if your spirits give you a cure for cancer and you use this to cure people of cancer. I think its "healing" knowledge. Or if someone is badly injured in car wreck and you perform ebo (offering) to them to ensure survival and good prospects. The Christian world does not deal with spirits the way we do and like I said before, I think its because they only deal with only one out of many spirits.

Joyce wrote: "tend to see and walk in the spirit and mindset of Jesus Christ more so than that of western culture or any other culture for that matter."

Your Christ (well really the NT God) is basically what we call Obatala. Obatala exhibits all the characteristics of Jesus and then some. His children, those born with his particular energy, usually find it not hard to be Christ-like. That's the energy they possess. Simple. Nothing hard about that.

I was born with a different energy and I can't be Christ-like. It's not in me and nor will I try to stress myself out being something I can't. My energy is Ellegua. I love to play practical jokes on people, bring confusion among the confident, engage in mischief (not to harm anyone) and just be a mess (child-like). However, Ellegua is very loyal, friendly, sociable, giving, diplomatic and understanding. Which I am. Ellegua's purpose is to help facilitate spiritual growth.

These are some of the spirits a person can pass or manifest on the physical plane. You can only manifest what energy you have within you or was born with. If you are like I think you would manifest Obatala or become Obatala literally.

 Yes, the Creator of Melanin MUST be brought up in this discussion. If you would please, Turn your Bible to A or ANY chapter or verses that talk SPECIFICALLY about melanin. For GOD surely created some with it and some without it. After that, please give me a scripture where GOD or the writers of the Bible talk about AND names the Planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, etc. and also the different galaxies and star systems etc. There is documented research on all of this, Heck, you can look up in the night sky and see 'em for yourself. BUT OF COURSE I need for you to show me where this is in YOUR Bible.

If you can't find any SPECIFIC verses on these subjects, then I WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND VJ57 to open your eyes and question why the Bible makes no mention of these things when they play such an Important role in the UNIVERSE.

One more thing to think about, Who translated the Bible from ANCIENT scrolls to English, which is FAR from ancient. Could there have been anything lost? Could there have been anything PURPOSELY left out or sub-tracted?

We are wasting this Digital paper, just like some toilet tissue. Let's please, ALL Universal minded individuals come together and continue this discussion.

P.S. Don't worry Sekhemu and Blackbird, from reading both of your posts and Reading/Saying my name over and over again, something might trigger the DNA in these people that won't think for themselves! HTP

Joyce, Dear I'm still waiting on your findings. Anyone else can respond as well.
