Infectious laughter ricochets
from me to you
to me
to you
to me
to you
then trampolines into the night air,
shedding lessening cares
mid-somersault
and landing, perfect 10,
on the foundations of joy,
why can’t everyday be like this?
you, relaxed, no lines of strain
rippling their ugliness through your radiant face,
me, not ranting in inconsequential anger,
until I’m too mad to recall
the roots of my rage,
I like your voice this way,
soft and sensual,
instead of accelerated with accusations,
your eyes filled with a sincere want
to reconnect those bridges
we long ago tore down,
my heart trembling to completely rekindle
fires doused by time and
circumstance,
us, communicating intently, freely,
lost in a glow, smiling
could we be….still in love?
you know, like we used to be,
maybe this is our night,
to gain back
what we both helped deplete,
as we sit here, sharing
one of few
lighter moments,
my mind can’t help but wonder,
why can’t it always be like this?
will we still feel this way tomorrow?
