Black Poetry : can't be black

Thanx Blak. Much wisdom and understanding in
your words. You are right, we are black by genetics
and it is a simple fact. We do all too often hold
ourselves to very low standards. I also understand
that this is due to centuries of conditioning.
It is good for us to examine and reexamine
and reexamine ourselves as we move ahead as
an individual and as a people. And you're right about
the validation. I wasn't seeking it, but I realize that
it sure is nice to be accepted by your peers. I'm so
conditioned in these recent years that I don't look for it
nor expect it. But I sure do appreciate it.
Peace to ya!

your right skrybe...

it does take the best of us
to reach for the rest of us
cause the majority of us
rust and oxidate
underneath the white sun
not knowing we can box our fate
cause ko's instead of serving
ya-yo to hobos
lost in the white light
in todays time
hate has more might
than love felt at night
or all through out the day
forked tongues say
love thine neighbor
but their behavior is love not reflected
i say love thine self first
then hate will be submersed
in a deep sea of amor
from shore to shore...

Peace
Khasm

kemetstry, You are speakin' much wisdom here.
We are so much more than what is depicted.
And though what is depicted nowadays
(not too far from yesterday at that)
does not even cover all that we are or
can be as black people. Now we got the glamorization
of the few who place the highest value
on material things or the best "image" according
to those sterotypes that are so negative and
self-destructive. What's funny(and scary at the same time)
is that we are trying so hard to be alike or similar in these
all too familiar "aspects" of our blackness that we lose sight of a very basic truth. And that is that there is more strength in diversity than in uniformity. Though each has it's place we do need to be able to use our discretion. We need not only musicians(whom I generally love) but we need as you say, doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, carpenters, plumbers, and all that. I was listenin to some idiot on the radio this morning tryin to clown "nerds". Though I've never fit the definition comin up, I did and do recognize the necessity for them. They're the one's who learn those very neccessary fields or vocations that any society needs in order to even be a society.

I must say though that I've done
my share of wrong in my life but I keep learning
and keep growing and am seeking wisdom
on the daily. We are African American
and We have the potential to harness the strength of our
diverse and many minds...
Peace to ya...

may the hobos never sell their souls
for clothes or the bling
nor for dimes and dubs
pipes full of crank or hubs
or none of that powdery stuff
cause that ain't love
instead let 'em see love
and the light that shines true
and let rightness shine through
any who try to
sell 'em out for lines
or dollar signs
though the scratch ain't evil
but in the hands of wrong minds
it could take a long time
to be freed from strong binds
let all the forms and fashions
and guises of hate
dissapate
greeting the lost souls
with love at the gate
now wouldn't that be great

Do the thang brah!
