Law Forum : Black Lives Matter (movement): NYC - Chokehold Death of Eric Garner

I believe the era of the proverbial leader has past for that of collective or corporate action.
With the tactics used by cointelpro of the past along with the rabid media seeking to tear down popular activists or even famous folk, along with the strong lobbyists in government and regulations governing corps, it could work to our benefit... With NAN shown as the example of done wrong

NY judge asked to release grand jury chokehold death details

NEW YORK (AP) — Civil liberties lawyers urged a state judge on Thursday to reverse a district attorney's attempt to keep secret the grand jury testimony concerning the police chokehold death of an unarmed man, saying the public needs to reconcile a widely watched video of the arrest with the decision not to indict the officer involved.

"Transparency is better than secrecy. Light is better than darkness," Arthur Eisenberg, legal director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said at hearing on Staten Island attended by the mother and widow of 43-year-old Eric Garner.

In court papers, the NYCLU cited the outcry over the grand jury's decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo — the white New York Police Department officer seen on a widely watched video putting the unarmed black man in what the medical examiner called a fatal chokehold — as a compelling reason to make an exception to the long-standing practice of keeping the process secret. NYPD Officer Who Shot Brooklyn Man Indicted by Grand Jury

A rookie New York City police officer is expected to surrender Wednesday to face criminal charges in the shooting death of an unarmed man this past November, according to a city official and a lawyer involved in the case.

A grand jury in Brooklyn returned an indictment today against Officer Peter Liang, who was 18 months out of the police academy when he shot and killed Akai Gurley in a dimly lit stairwell of a Brooklyn public housing project.
Police have said Liang fired by accident.
