i can't explain my tears really
only the reality of people truly
mourning losses of loved ones will
be crying, hugging, remembering
even grudgingly...

in my simple prayer this morning
thanking God for safety
and waking me up and
to please be with those in mourning
today
God immediately humbled me
and put me in the reality
of the children who lost fathers
and the ones who lost their mothers
and the babies that won't remember
and the pregnant wives who lost husbands
and the husbands left to raise the children
and the parents left to raise grandchildren
and the parents left childless
and that was my uncle, cousin, aunt, sister,
friend, grandma, papa, lover, person i saw every morning,
lunch mate, future daughter-in-law, neighbor...
and i was a mother in the building facing death
knowing that i wouldn't raise my children
oh the grief that overcame me...

these were human beings that died
and wounded loved ones left behind
and lets not forget people in the building
survivors
and those who were witnesses on the street
and those who helped
all who suffer from post-traumatic disorders
and sleepless nights
whose lives will never be the same
who will live with the memory of this tragedy
we are reminded that it
happened to us.
