Black People : Model minority

what are you getting at?

The model of the "model minority" (no pun intended) is used for purposes of divide and conquer as well as psychological impact on those who are not members of the "model minority".

I'm certain the model is also used for purposes of absolving guilt and "proof" that racism is no more.

If you will notice, the "model minority" doesn't challenge the political structure at all, but they are very dutiful workers ....

Be a good worker (servant) and don't challenge the political or social structure.

Those were some points that I noticed ....

Brother I hope you are not implying that we should become a model minority?

That is not what I am implying.

Let me state this again: the model minority implies a group who are good servants to the society (political structure) as well as non-threatening to it.

That is the point I am making.

It is not a call to action.
It is not a measure to shoot for.

It is merely an assessment and opinion of the concept, model minority.

If anything it is a psychological ploy against those not deemed model.

Wasn't this concept structured primarily describing Asian Americans...suggesting the minority group to achieve higher status than the average population thereby, erasing the struggles/racism of past generations. However, I am puzzled as to intent or purpose in this post..what are you attempting to accomplish? Or is this just to draw out opinions of the stated myth?

@PROVERBS...

DITTO
Yeah - that's what I thought.
*shrug*

Divide and Conquer...?
I guess...
*shrug*
Anyway, it's only a ploy to folks that overthink and lack the self-worth that would stop them from projecting every possible negative in creation onto themselves. Now, I am not talking about you. I am speaking very generally on this -- because, black folks tend to do it.
A lot.
...and it gets on my nerves. Black folks act as if they have no filter.
'Let's talk about what this random group thinks of me and how f'ed up that makes me feel about myself...'
*laugh*
I mean - really...?
See, that's the thing with self esteem: No one can take it away...and no one can give it to you.

'Model Minority'...meh.
I am pret-ty...indifferent. The term is a 'put-down'. Ok.
I don't have a problem with white folks, but, I sure as heck have better things to do than worry about 'What White Folks Think' (of me).
I do what I need to do to realize success. If some people want to think a certain way about me and members of my group?
It's their issue.
Not mine. Not...OURS.

'The Asian'? I don't agree with what I've heard to be their collective reasoning for striving so hard...but, I won't judge them harshly. I understand. They were in a foreign place and just trying to make it.
Their culture is just different and they do things...differently.

Anyway, I don't see how 'the asian' can be outright dismissed as a 'dutiful worker' -- a 'servant' -- when they're outperforming their white counterparts (indeed, everyone else) educationally.
Economically.
*shrug*
Socio-economic status matters and in America and they're pretty much...'at the top'. (Consistently.)
Lowest unemployment figures. Highest salaries.
*shrug*
What white folks think of them? I'm pretty sure that they don't care...
