Troubl'd watahs...

flo'n hyeah

'fraid an' a ha'z
no mo laffah
troubl'n state
pik'n cott'n
at dawn's first light

backs a hu'tn
no end n sight
feel'n blu's
I's sing'n dem
ol' gosp'l hymns

mah mammy's gon'
mastah sol' huh
lak ol' sho's
chillun tuk'n
we'n deys bo'n

mastah hid'n
f'om his miss'is
snek'n n' mah qua'ters
late n' da night
tek'n somep'n
dat ain' his ta git'

hus'bn bea'tn
hang'd n' bu'n
tryin' ta scape
ta da no'th
say'd he sen' fu' me
fu' da time was sho't

troubl'd watahs

I's mit'e tiahed
I prays each night
fu' da shrenf ta fight
ol' lawd.....dis watahs
pur'dy deep.......

save mah soul
evah'day I's weep
ta bring's me peace
so's I kin sleep
