When you think of me,
and I know you do,
What type of hue
colors your view?
I hope the backdrop
isn't just various shades of blue...

When whatever we were supposed to be
turns into whatever it was
disappointment shouldn't consume because
it didn't fully blossom, sadly, it rarely does
Yes, hearts that used to be all aflutter
alas, are no longer a buzz

I know, I never would have known that about you,
and you knowing that about me
sometimes makes salutations blurt out uncomfortably
but fortunately, or unfortunately
Getting to know someone, means sharing some secrets
and regretting some, inevitably

Perhaps, when those thorny thoughts
just won't leave us alone
we'll consider each other to be, another road to the throne
one step closer to the king or queen who is yet, unknown
and learning even more about ourselves in this trek
steadily approaching that love of our own

So I breathe a deep sigh, remembering
that life does keep moving, with us, or without
so I try to purge any regret and self doubt
More often than not, it just doesn't work out.
But when it does, blessed, truly, are all roads
that set our feet to journey to love devout
