The Front Porch : New to the board

Welcome to the Site, Serious, would you explain how "reciprocal links" could possibly be an income earner; if I'm understanding the introduction correctly?

Peace In,

Thanks for contacting me. A reciprocal link in and of itself is not an income earner. However, if a person has a website that is monetized, the extra traffic generated from reciprocal linking can lead to earned income.

I have noticed that there are hundreds of websites in the "black owned business" category. Only a handful of those sites can garner any significant search engine traffic at any given time.

Reciprocal linking helps to build your website ranking with search engines. And even beyond search engine traffic, each link to your website is a real entranceway to your website. That is priceless.

There are some websites that charge a fee to create reciprocal links but I don't do that. I may charge or pay someone for a oneway link to or from my site. But my view on reciprocal linking is that we are helping each other so their is no need to have a monetary exchange.

I see, thanks for the quick response Serious. And thanks for explaining the network functioning of reciprocal linking. While I have you, would you clarify some more what you mean by this:

Peace In,

From my experience there are three reasons that only a handful of those sites can garner any significant search engine traffic at any given time.

1 - Most people never search past the first two pages of Google, Bing or Yahoo for any search query in which they are interested.

2 - The search query "black owned business" is actually a highly sought after and a very general search phrase. "Black owned Casino" on the other hand is not a popular search phrase. So chances are that if you are black and own a casino your specific business will pop up at the top of the search engine listings almost every time

3- From time to time search engines change their algorithms. So a site that was on the first page listing for two years may fall off and end up on page 10 where almost no one will see it.

This is where quality links can take up some of that slack. If you have one million quality links to your site then you don't really have to worry about search engine traffic.

Full Disclosure: These statements are derived from my personal experience over that last four years of being a webmaster. Other webmasters may have different perspectives. However I am confident in what I have written.

Thanks again for reaching out. I can tell that being a member of this board is going to be great.

Gotcha, loud and clear, expediency, its all in the domain name, for the most part; or it pays to have a domain which is relative to search terms.

Peace In,
