Love is
the blood flowing through one's heart
the rising of the sun in the east, the sun setting in the west
Buddha...Jesus..Jehova..Allah...
the breastmilk flowing into the mouths of newborns,
underpaid doctors saving the lives of spirits on the brink of death,
the knowledge received by the youth from the wisdom of the ones who came before us,
the air that fills our lungs,
the water that flows through sterile lands giving it life
the joining of sperm and egg
family barbeques
four page letters to your man upstate
hangin' wit your boys on da block
sexin your man late at nite...wakin up early to cook him breakfast
cursin your kids' teacher out for givin them a bad grade
nostalgic records playin on your father's record player
penny candy and hop skotch
socks on cold feet
a girdle under a little black dress
forty ounces and marijuana
mountain climbing without a harness
a field of sunflowers in a plain of weeds
lettin your mother in law sleep in your third bedroom
the smell of sweet potato pies seducing the air
staying up late..not saying anything...
