Left Behind

Left behind
And it’s only a fault of mine
Instead of doing what I got to in order to succeed
I been too busy worrying about a situation that changed because of me

Stepped over the assignments of my life
Then when scores went south and excuses didn’t work
It hurt like a cut from a knife
I gave up on the dream
Now I’m left struggling to make it look as easy as it seems

If only I had a little more time
Is a lie I convinced myself was on my dime
Got sick of the criticism, so I told my critics
Take just a minute and live my life
Go through the things I go through
Struggle through the struggles I struggle through

And you know what
They did
Came back with a unanimous decision
That my life ain’t so rough
All I need is to get a little tough

But here’s the thing they don’t see
It’s only me
My security foundation has been thoroughly shaken
Gone away from me is my life:
My best friend slash mother
And older and younger brother
Plus the baldness that is my pops

I said, my security foundation has been thoroughly shaken
And instead of my independence rising to front
It flew away and left me a problem alone to confront

So before their quick assumption
About my trouble free existence
Think of a sheltered cub being deserted by the pack left to fend for herself
Then add the part about me being self-righteous and extremely stubborn by asking them not to hover
My feet not moving but my heart is breaking
My words were never seriously spoken
So I was left here broken

All the time I have to remind myself that:
I was left behind
And it was only a fault of mine
