Black Poetry : A Black Man's Introduction

I’m a black man
And proud to be
You can beat me
Chain me
Lynch me
But I cannot be stopped
Kill me
But you cannot destroy me
For I live beyond the body
I am the embodiment
Of knowledge
Creativity
Harmony
Something that this world
Cannot afford to lose
You can shun me
But you need me
In order for you to exist
Carrying this world
Upon my shoulders
My land
Has brought you prosperity
Yet you return it to me
Used and abused
Ghettos you call them
But I take the ghetto
And reconstruct it
To something you never thought
I could do
A weapon
Of motivation that
Stirs minds
And empowers
Others to dream big
Yes there are casualties
And failures
Yet thru it all
I shall thrive
Survive
For my path cannot be deterred
To deny me
Is to deny yourself
For I have made you what you are
You cannot forget about me
For I am everywhere
You cannot run
Don’t try to hide
For where you go
I am already there
Wherever you try to escape
I’ve already been there
I am the Black Man
And may God have mercy upon your soul
If you ever try to forget it.
