    Harold Cruse wrote a book on the same subject, aka the Harlem Renaisance (sic) etc.: Not enough read it or heeded his reality checks/wake up calls...May you be luckier...FYI...

    Do keep in mind, in spite of the sacrifices, i. e., former black slaves and free blacks siding with the North, then serving as black elected officials by the way of local/county/state/U. S. congresspeople, etc., the betrayal which led to the election of Hayes/the removal of U. S. troops from former Confederate states, the rise of the U. S. version of apartheid...FYI...
