Black People : What Cultural Rituals do black people need to create? (brainstorming session)

I second this motion.

In some form, a festivity to honor those before us who gave to our survival.
As you know I do Capoeira, and this is a ritualized practice that honors both strength/courage, as well as creative cunning for our people to empower themselves.

I think this festivity should be done on junteenth

how would it go? who would participate in it? what ideas do you have about the various elements of the ceremony? and how do those various elements align with the objective of the overall ceremony?
I would start with the largest elements of the ceremony and their symbolic significance.. and leave the smaller details to local/regional culture..

I can not. I only acknowledge that if Astronomy was taken to Egypt, that Meroe had "Astrology."

Though, I can not imagine that it would be much different from Kemet's (since the proximity is so close.)

Theoretically, the earliest Astronomical system may be even more South--or West--I don't know.
Ok just asking since I talked earlier about trying to establish some correlations between calendar systems.

"I agree.. I'm thinking around the significance of the change of seasons.. Winter Solstice.. 1st day of Spring, etc.. I think we need to reconnect with something not man-made.. and also I'm thinking about what lessons specific to African american history need to codified through rituals?.. and also institutions..? how do we pass the torch.. and how do we maintain continuity between generations.. on all levels.. Family level.. Cultural Institution level (schools, rec centers, churches, etc).. government instituional level (where possible).. etc.. its really a big set of questions.."
