Black Spirituality Religion : the psychological effects of white jesus continue to haunt us

Clyde, I will say the "appearance of truth" is still an appearance, just as our government gives us the appearance of still having Constitutional roots as a democracy in a militarized national security state.

The "appearance" of truth does not make it true. and remains to me as unreliable as myth.

A person is entitled to an opinion writer33, but not their own set of facts. Most accept the clear distinction between myth and legend rests on verisimilitude.

But moreover, we aren't talking about truth as much as we are about the difference between a legend and a myth, please don't conflate the two.

Common knowledge below marks the differences based on the question: is there evidence that the event occurred:

Comparison chart

Is there evidence that the event occurred?
Legend
There may be proof to support the story as it reportedly happened during a specific historical time period.

Myth
There is no evidence or time frame to support that the people were real or the events in the myth actually occurred.

My final two (2) points on this writer33, recall my earlier statement below on how the origin of Rome is brought/taught as legend rather than the myth it is:

"... In other words, how believable is it that they were born as twins to the god Mars? Keep in mind, most consider this a myth, but its brought to us and taught as legend ... Is it myth or legend? Who are the eponymous ancestors of Greece/Rome? ..."

The origin of the city's name is thought to be that of the reputed founder and first ruler, the legendary Romulus.[7] It is said that Romulus and his twin brother Remus, apparent sons of the god Mars, who were suckled by a she-wolf after being abandoned, decided to build a city. After an argument, Romulus killed Remus and named the city Rome, after himself.

Since you hold that the terms in discussion are interchangeable, are you prepared to begin referring to the Bible as legendary writer33?

From Wikipedia:

Verisimilitude is a philosophical concept that distinguishes between the truth and the falsity of assertions and hypotheses.[1] The problem of verisimilitude is the problem of articulating what it takes for one false theory to be closer to the truth than another false theory.

And how do we establish how one "false theory" can be closer to the truth than another? And, still, "closer" does not make it true. We are therefore dealing in likelihoods, a very grey area over which logicians may have been debating over centuries.

The old wisdom "perception is reality," and how our philosophers, politicians, religious leaders, PR practitioners love to stroke "perception."

Wikipedia is a good source, but be careful and be sure to click and read the supporting References relied upon at the bottom of the page ...

In this case again, you've conflated the literary aspect of verisimilitude with the scientific and philosophical aspect as put forward by Karl Popper.

This problem was central to the philosophy of Karl Popper, largely because Popper was among the first to affirm that truth is the aim of scientific inquiry while acknowledging that most of the greatest scientific theories in the history of science are, strictly speaking, false.[4]

Below is the source link (Reference), writer33, which supports the definition you cited from Wikipedia ... [1]

VERISIMILITUDE: The sense that what one reads is "real," or at least realistic and believable. For instance, the reader possesses a sense of verisimilitude when reading a story in which a character cuts his finger, and the finger bleeds. If the character's cut finger had produced sparks of fire rather than blood, the story would not possess verisimilitude. Note that even fantasy novels and science fiction stories that discuss impossible events can have verisimilitude if the reader is able to read them with suspended disbelief. Cf. Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

Moreover, Popper's approach was found to be false:

Note: Popper’s definition allows that there are false theories A and B such that neither is closer to the truth than the other.

A fatal flaw in this definition was detected independently by Tich (1974) and Miller (1974). They showed that, according to Popper’s definition, for any false theories A and B neither is closer to the truth than any other. This is a fatal flaw because the philosophical motivation behind Popper’s definition was to solve the problem of progress by showing that it is possible that some false theories are closer to the truth than other false theories.

Oh, my. So much chewing about Christ vs. other forms of religions and philosophy. It would help if someone actually read the Bible from beginning to end. That would tend to eliminate confusion, Confucius and Buda. Christ's genealogy states very well that Jesus is the Son of GOD and the Son God.

Buda was always looking for the Truth and the path and Christ said, "I am the Truth and the way."

Confucius had very many interesting teachings and sayings and Christ said, his teachings was water from a well where no man would thirst again.

He also said he provides Life Eternal, to come follow him and "leave the dead to bury the dead." A riddle? What does that say?

Does any other religion or philosophy exalt man to a throne beside their God?

What other religion or philosophy is there where God sacrifices himself to save the least among men?
