Black People : Not All Of Us Are Gonna Make It

Funny you should wonder (in regards to what those wealthy and well-to-do people *did* with their wealth), Orisons. Funny.

They INVESTED in the educations and businesses belonging to fellow Negroes STATEWIDE! They paid for full ride college educations for children that *were not* their own family members. Full ride. They *helped* children from other states, too (when asked). Their most notable 'out of state' student/project was a man named Wilson Camanza Riles, Sr.

Look him up online. Their most notable in-state success story is a man named Emmett Chappelle. Look him up online. Their specialty, though? Churning out college grads (pick the discipline) who were attending colleges all over the country. By the thousands (full rides), and from the mid-1920s thru the mid-70s.

Doctors. Lawyers. Teachers. Artists. Nurses. Scientists. Politicians. Pick the discipline. Cost them a whole LOT of money, Orisons. Spent on other folk's kids (and not just their own kinfolk). They'd donate to various social clubs and business organizations--they'd do bake sales, dances, clothing drives (couldn't have one of their students looking raggedy in some college classroom 'somewhere in the U.S.'--not when it was a student from *our community*. They didn't care if their prospects came from rich homes or dirt poor homes--all they cared about was that a promising child or teen *got a true chance to excel*.

Their *hope* was that these college grads would return to Az and 'pay back' by involving themselves in the educations/enrichment, academically of someone else's promising prospect. They got a large enough proportion of returning grads to make the investment worthwhile, ultimately.

They built a **** near completely self-sustaining, segregated sub-city within a larger city, Orisons. Businesses. Newspapers. Insurance companies. Groceries. Drive-ins. Dry cleaners. Funeral homes. Pharmacies. Taxi services. Real estate offices. Gas stations. Manufacturing. Farming. Book stores. Clinics. A hospital. Doctors. Dentists. Beauty shops. Jewelers. Legislators. Judges. Actors/actresses. Musicians. Night club owners.

The only thing folk didn't have handy (as I recall) were corporate BANK branch representation (not until the early 70s). People did, instead, go to certain members of the community (social or business clubs, again) to *get loans* for homes, until a member of the Negro community got a 2 million dollar fed loan specifically to build new homes on the Southside--which then spawned the creation of more than one big time Negro residential construction company, and etc.

All of that kind of growth COST MONEY, but the wealthiest in the community believed that it would all pay off *in spades*--and it all did just that.

This is what I mean when I write about COHESION.

Where did I express [in my questions below, are you going to answer them] any wonder with regard to what the GAP community’s still wealthy descendents are doing with their wealth whereas isn’t the issue here just how poorly organised and led many of our communities in the USA, UK and the rest of the Diaspora are TODAY, especially in comparison to other ethnic groups [many of whom have come into the country after us], or don’t you think that the Boulé dominated AUTOMATONS we’re afflicted with are easily the most inept lobby within the USA with regard to securing our best interests [especially in comparison to the Jews, WASPS, Italians even Greeks and Asians]?

Aren’t YOU as emasculated as I to have to publicly concede that I truly cannot name ANY African leader who has done as much for Africa over the last 500 years as Muamar Gaddafi, an Arab [whereas don’t we have to get our act together], can you?

Wouldn’t it be great if LIFE were that simple, or are you genuinely unaware of the fact that the real issue isn’t wealth so much as what you do with it, hence their ongoing comfort with most of the very wealthy African American musicians, entertainers, actors and sports stars, apart from the likes of Paul Robeson, Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover and especially Wesley Snipes’s entrepreneurial focus with regard to our community’s upliftment?

The GAP community’s DO FOR SELF ethos, focus on programming constructively/fully educating their youth was the nucleus of a methodology that could [should] have spread across of all of our communities in the USA, the rest of the Diaspora and Africa which explains why its so very very successful affluence is STILL marginalized/ignored by their mass media TODAY, isn’t it?

Muamar Gaddafi, his family and most of that Libyan elite’s focus on the socio-economic advancement/industrialization of not just Libya but the whole of Africa cost them their lives, whereas doesn’t behaving like the Saudis, Gulf States and all of the other CLUELESS Arabs/Bedouin Nomads who are both banking and investing their oil wealth in the West as opposed to industrializing themselves [which is what Israel has done, hence their ongoing focus on preventing Iraq, Iran and Syria ever catching up] guarantees arms/assistance from the West [like the removal of the democratically elected Morsi administration in Egypt] with repressing the masses of the region away from their aspiration for more equable wealth dispersal, as they would NEVER EVER even think of or want to grow into an industrialized Super Power/threat?

Isn’t ANYONE who genuinely believes they are not programmed
graphically illustrating that their programming is COMPLETE?

Speaking directly to the question, absolutely, yes, I honestly and optimistically think we can get this, Othervoice; we have no other choice.

Moreover, and as you point out, the failures of Gary in 1972, as well as, the failures of Bandung, should be studied, evaluated and not repeated, for sure.

This concept of coming together and reaching consensus based resolutions, among 29 countries, can easily be adopted by a national conference of grassroots, effectively. More importantly and moving forward, it would begin a long term solution toward the issues that affect black people, which can only be resolved when we see eye to eye, and without a focus on our differences; but what we can agree on as significant. So yes, we should begin to have this conversation within our ranks, or pockets of unity.

Perhaps you missed my first post to this Thread(below), let me encourage you to click and review the link offered there; so that you can reach a better understanding of our efforts to achieve the principle about which you and I have been discussing, which is to say, improving things at the grassroots level:

No, Orisons, I don't feel emasculated. I'm a woman, bro:cheerleader:

We *both* can have valid points about the history *and the people* who were the original Black Wall Streeters. Truth is, we seem to see the significance of the Greenwood folks and the tragedy that they lived through quite differently.

It happened, though. It was EVIL. Yet that murderous riot didn't leave them without options affording them to re-set, get their lives back in gear, and thereafter to prosper again.

Not *all of them* that lost all that they did, but many Greenwood families and businesses eventually *overcame* in the end.
