Out of curiosity, can I ask how you as a Black-American perceive this film?
Peace Zim, I dont see myself as a black american.. thats how I'm seen by others. I see myself as a human being.. And I saw the perpetuation of a depraved way of life. How did you perceive this film? How was it received in England?
Pretty much the same as you. I was just curious how Black person in America would view a British as opposed to an American hood film. It was banned and only got released in a few places because the police believed it would glamorize and perpetuate gang violence. It was received quite well other than that though. Adulthood is more of a mainstream type and in my opinion doesn't capture the raw life-style. One day on the other hand is a more realistic portrayal despite the humor and musical thats in the film.
when they come for us next time.. many of us will really be that personification of evil that they have always made us out to be.. 40 years ago we were a different people.. it's incredibly sad.
