it was almost as if i needed you
the circumstances surrounding your initial
coming to be weren't necessarily happy
but i needed you
to prove that you should be here
and later, now, you cling to me
as if you need me always
as if what i was feeling as you grew inside
me was a mutual thing
and i love you
you bring to my house the ever fresh smell
of strawberries and honeysuckle
lingering softly in the air in all the rooms
and your room,
behind the kitchen and the dining room,
is floral and slightly old-fashioned
white and yellow and green
kept warm by the humming things in the kitchen
where i know you'll always feel at home--
even in all your wildness.
