George Zimmerman’s Website Raised $200,000, Lawyer Says

“And he said those are the accounts that had the money from the Web site he had and that there was about $200,000, $204,000 that had come in to date.”

And even though Zimmerman’s do-it-yourself website was taken down yesterday, O’Mara said that he plans to start a legal defense fund “done the right way” to solicit donations. “I’ve had dozens–hundreds actually of people wanting to donate,” the attorney said.

What am i doing wrong? We never get anything close to this kind of support.

We were here providing a place for all the many deaths inflicted on Black People for the last 14 years ... and all i get is grief when it comes to asking for or needing financial help to keep our home alive ... but this man ... these people ... financially support their own ... even when they're wrong.

I aint even asking you to support us when we're wrong, just support us if you think we're right, if you think we're doing a good thing, if you'd like to see the site stay alive ... any little bit of help ... and i'm left struggling, worrying, praying, hoping that we can stay alive another month ... and then we have this.

Something is really wrong.

It's sad to me ... but the reality ... and i gotta deal with it.

It aint easy.

Elizabeth Keckley saw recently emancipated Africans genuinely pining for slavery. Slavery!

She summed it up:

"Dependence had become part of their second nature, and independence brought with it the cares and vexations of poverty."

Few of us planned to be collectively independent. Hence independence for the greater good is a struggle.

I saw a program that was bringing employment to young girls in a small African village have to beg for money most of us had in our pockets. That's just where we are.

If we don't try to change it--that's where we will be.

Always resourceful, Keckley found a way through one of her patrons. A Ms. Ringold used her connection to Mayor James G. Berret to petition for a license for Elizabeth; upon her request Berrett not only granted her the license, but granted it free of charge.[20]
With her new license, she was able to concentrate more closely on networking and supporting herself. Commissions for dresses were steadily coming in, but the dress that she completed for Mrs. Robert E. Lee sparked her business' rapid growth. Keckley found most of her work with the women of society by word-of-mouth recommendations; after completing several dresses, she came upon a commission that she almost let go.
