You didn’t come into this world wearing Gucci
I reckon you didn’t even know what that was then
And did people say you were an ugly child because of it?
Just how did spending money like a fool become the trend?

Throwing away 500 dollars on a pair of shoes
When there are durable look-a-likes for 60
If you think that makes you more of a woman
Then, honey, you’re as blind as can be.

In the words of India.Arie’s mother, Joyce Simpson,
“A lady isn’t what she wears, but what she knows.”
A mini skirt isn’t gonna save you
When your self-esteem’s reached a whole new low.

Forget what other people might say
Go money-crazy and you’ll end up broke
All because you wanted the latest fashions.
The world of spending is no joke.

You’re ALREADY good enough
And don’t think I don’t know how you feel
It’s tough living in a word
Where trends are always changing. It’s almost unreal.

It’s hard to think that
‘Maybe everyone else is just wrong’
Since those around you seem so fancy
But it’s your life and lives aren’t always long
(Don't hate me!!)

So you’ve got to be what you want to be
Do what you want to do
Know you’re just as good as they are
And know you’re beautiful, too.

I hope you get something from this
I know thinking this way always helps ME out
You're definitely worthy of living
This is all I’ve got. Now be proud!
