You didn’t come into this world wearing Gucci
I reckon you didn’t even know what that was then
And did people say you were an ugly child because of it?
Just how did spending money like a fool become the trend?

Throwing away 500 dollars on a pair of shoes
When there are durable look-a-likes for 60
If you think that makes you more of a woman
Then, honey, you’re as blind as can be.

In the words of India.Arie’s mother, Joyce Simpson,
“A lady isn’t what she wears, but what she knows.”
A mini skirt isn’t gonna save you
When your self-esteem’s reached a whole new low.

Forget what other people might say
Go money-crazy and you’ll end up broke
All because you wanted the latest fashions.
The world of spending is no joke.

    You’re ALREADY good enough
And don’t think I don’t know how you feel
It’s tough living in a word
Where trends are always changing. It’s almost unreal.

    It’s hard to think that
‘Maybe everyone else is just wrong’
Since those around you seem so fancy
But it’s your life and lives aren’t always long
    (Don't hate me!!)

So you’ve got to be what you want to be
Do what you want to do
Know you’re just as good as they are
    And know you’re beautiful, too.

I hope you get something from this
I know thinking this way always helps ME out
    You're definitely worthy of living
This is all I’ve got. Now be proud!

Starting a 'Trend ain't all bad as long as it's your own name written across your back/and sneakers with your logo on it...that's what's up :D

I agree with everything you said in that poem. I've written a poem along the same topic called " The Trends" Its sad how a "logo" determines your likability and social status. leaving the human connnection so utterly shallow and superficial in crowds where status is everything.

Did you post it?? If you did, can you post the link? I think this was too wordy, and I'm not completely sure I got my point across..maybe you've explained it better. But thank you. I love how so many people here don't appear to be obsessed with something so unimportant.

Someone made a sort of joke a while back. You might have seen it. It said something like "If Abercrombie & Fitch said it was cool to stop breathing, 99% of people would die. Post this if you are part of the 1% that wouldn't." I wonder where trend-crazed people draw the line..would they actually start breathing less?
