They just want to dance
strut and gyrate in the arms
of each other
soft, shapeless poets
lonely with tired eyes
looking for a place
to sleep with nothing
to apologize

On the dance floor where the lights
are burning a new meaning
into the definition of
worship
where ecstacy and pain
share the same space
the "would be's" kick
cruelty in the face and stalk
a sinuous game gladly abandoning
themselves to pleasure
This is the last dance
before sunrise
and negotiated breakfasts--
desparate alliances
and hasty phone number
exchanges
separate the 'would be's'
from those who 'are'
~ leave this scenario
go home and recount
what happend here tonight
...write?!
