World holds breath as US government shutdown imminent

Washington (AFP) - Hundreds of thousands of US government workers came to work Monday without knowing whether they will be needed on Tuesday, as federal agencies faced a devastating shutdown.
Lawmakers in the bitterly divided Congress had only a few hours left to pass a stopgap budget measure and to beat the midnight deadline, but there was little sign of compromise.
President Barack Obama has warned that a freeze in non-essential federal spending could have catastrophic effects on the shaky economic recovery, and cost thousands of jobs.
But Congressional leaders have been unable to wrangle a compromise from feuding clans of lawmakers, arguing instead over who takes the blame for the first shutdown in 17 years.
If the deadline expires without a deal the failure will have a global impact. Oil prices slid and European and Asian shares fell, amid fears for the world's largest economy.

 ... They did it, they shut down the Government, second time in a decade, last done in 1995.

U.S. government shutdown begins after Congress fails to break impasse

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) points to a countdown clock at a news conference at the U.S. Capit …
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government began a partial shutdown on Tuesday for the first time in 17 years, potentially putting up to 1 million workers on unpaid leave, closing national parks and stalling medical research projects.
Federal agencies were directed to cut back services after lawmakers could not break a political stalemate that sparked new questions about the ability of a deeply divided Congress to perform its most basic functions.
After House Republicans floated a late offer to break the logjam, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rejected the idea, saying Democrats would not enter into formal negotiations on spending "with a gun to our head" in the form of government shutdowns.
The political dysfunction at the Capitol also raised fresh concerns about whether Congress can meet a crucial mid-October deadline to raise the government's $16.7 trillion debt ceiling.

Free burgers await furloughed US federal workers

Washington (AFP) - A fast-food chain in Washington is promising free hamburgers to federal workers who find themselves furloughed if the US government shuts down Tuesday, its founder and proprietor said Monday.
"If people don't go to work, they can come and get a burger" at four Z-Burger locations in the national capital region at noon hour and again in the early evening, Peter Tabibian told AFP.
Tabibian, whose family emigrated from Iran in the 1980s, acknowledged that he's going to lose money "if this thing goes on for 20 days," but he said he wanted to help out civil servants who are a big part of his clientele.
The offer is open to furloughed federal employees and contractors upon presentation of an ID card, as well as municipal workers in Washington, which as a federal district is overseen by Congress.

Like you, I'm in decent shape, but my heart goes out to the voluminous numbers of our people, on furlough, for no other reason than ransom by those making 100's of 1,000's of dollars of undisturbed pay.

There's something smelly about Government interference with its own operation, you can't trust what Whites devise. There's one reason why the recession continues it is because Africans in diaspora stand to carry out an important task that is to help give energy to the African regeneration. For when things were good in America and Western nations we were busy about our lives trying to integrate into their societies, spending untold amounts of money on looks of status and pleasure expenditures. Not giving a care at all that one day Western nations would succumb to the change of Worlds that is happening now. African nations are fastest growing economies in the world since 2000, it's no wonder 9/11 the inside job threw us back economically. Since then 1000's of Black Americans have lost their jobs, careers, educational funding, homes and businesses, when you're looking for the culprit to this shut down look no further than European White fear of a rising Africa and a wealthy diaspora that stands to invest in the Motherland.

I wouldn't be so quick to support Mr. Obama who is nothing more than a distraction from African Kings. Since 1960's African leaders like Sekou Toure have come to America to beg Black Americans to invest in Africa. Yet we will not take the spoils and they are spoils of European conquest of ourselves and others, and invest that into our own ancestral home. Instead we are thinking race relations have changed because Whites elected a Black President yet Obama isn't Nelson Mandela and we aren't South Africa. For Nelson Mandela was fighter for a just cause, while imprisoned he solved our problems in his head, Mr. Mandela knows Africa's vast resources will make Africa the Future not America. Obama was put into office to keep your heads and hearts in America while America has never lived up to any of the promises made by the gentle angel Dr. King. Yet that's all you hear when President Obama addresses Black Americans to keep hoping in an American that's is just as racist as it was during King's era.

Don't be fooled the shut down is to hurt Blacks more and keep us from supporting Africa. And Mr. Obama is doing what his genetic makers wanted of him when they thought him up. When you want to know what a thing's purpose is then look around at its effects. If Blacks are getting poorer and poorer since 9/11 then that was the purpose of 9/11 to put us in recession and keep us there.
