I don't blame victims. I do point out hypocrisy though. You can't one moment be fine with having sex for benefits (the benefits being fame and riches) and then once the ride is over and you are no longer receiving casting calls claim oh he raped me. It does a disservice to those women who were actually raped, by taking the spotlight off of true victims and placing it on people who are essentially angry that their moment of sex with a distasteful person no longer garners them benefits they feel they deserve.

Example, I can find a picture of Rose McGowan hugging her rapist.

The alleged rape happened when she was 23 (1996), this picture was taken in 2004 (she was 31 at the time). Why in the world is she hugging and smiling for the camera with her rapist? Why is she not avoiding this guy? Why is she letting her rapist place his arm around her? She definitely did not help any of the other women he manipulated by staying silent so long and also being seen in public with him, smiling and hugging. Now, over 22 years later, she is shouting to the mountain tops her experience and throwing other women under the bus whom she complains said nothing. Well, she did the same thing for 22 years, until her career hit the skids and now, only now, did she come forward when she had nothing else to lose and everything to gain (book deal, talk shows, even a movie). What about the sister who actually created the movement, and has been in the trenches for years with no publicity. What is she getting out of this, but a pat on the head?

So no, I am not blaming the victims. I am pointing out the hypocrisy of the opportunists to something that was created for victims who actually have no voice. Rose McGowan had a voice, she just chose not to use it for 22 years in the hopes of remaining rich and famous. Once that was over, then and only then, did she come forward.

She is pointing fingers at other women, and so I am pointing out that she needs to point the finger at herself first.

I did overstate the number of years she waited by saying it was 30, it was actually 22. Edited post to fix that.

oh gosh ... "spread her legs" ... sends chills up my destee wholesomeness meter ... :eeek:

But I do see that the story actually said it ... though ... well ... it did say it.

Sister IFE ... post only 2 sentences of the other people's property. It's a rule.

Now ... omg at this topic ... :injured:

Lots of good points made in it.

What comes to mind for me, are the smiling happy looking enslaved African images.

Even when we were no longer enslaved, some chose to remain on the plantation.

Not to suggest that this could be likened to that ... but people can be so traumatized that their countenance defies their circumstance.

Women abused daily, serve lovingly their abusers every want and need.

Though I must give it to yall ... old gurl all hugged up on Weinstein years later ... iono

It's hard to be in another's being, trying to weigh their experience, pain, joy, etc.

Try not to be the victim or the victimizer ... both seem heavy burdens to bear.

    Great topic yall ...

I think we gotta be careful too ... the message we send young girls.

While this speaks to adults, the words are harsh and our youth could take them to heart.

Usually the act of sexual abuse for girls includes her legs being spread.

Girls hear that ... you spread your legs, you can't complain, it's your fault too.

There is already so much of that, it's probably not the seed we want to plant.

It's a terribly hard space to negotiate, being sexually violated, abused, raped, etc.

If you are a victim, you have a right to deal with that victimization how you see fit.

It's like white people telling us ... slavery is over, let it go, you participate.

    Loving Us!
