The military just said it's ok for women to qualify for combat. Do you think this is something whose time has come? Or is this an accident waiting to happen on so many levels?

personally, i believe that anyone who wants to fight in a war should be allowed to fight in a war.

with that said, i think too many women romanticize the notion of war...like white people do. they think about what they can do in war time situations...and being able to tell their grandchildren 'bout what they did to protect their freedoms--patriotism is a motivating force for white people. i don't believe womenthink about what can happen to them, during wartime situations: being prisoners of war, being raped...used and abused...passed around from one to the other...til the only thing you want to do is die. it's easy to think about what you can do to others...what you want to do to others. but it's not war 'til it's being done to you.

you see men returning from war messed up--mentally. you see them going off the deep end...committing suicide...some taking their whole family with them. that's just from the sight of death. add rape and torture...used and abused...and everything they'd put a woman through, just because.

when it's over, i think women will tell you they weren't ready for that.

when my son returned from the middle east, he got out of the army...moved to phoenix...and lived on the streets 'til his mother and i tracked him down. as he said, war changes you...and you can never go back.

I think it's a horrrible idea. I'm willing to bet that most of the women in the armed forces are of color and poor.

No, they weren't allowed in combat units though. Now, they can be in offensive units like the rangers, seals. etc.

Pentagon Will Open All Combat Roles to Women
The groundbreaking decision overturns a 1994 Pentagon rule that restricts women from artillery, armor, infantry and other such combat roles.

True. One of the most glaring differences would be in the case of becoming a POW.

I can imagine what they would do to women. Even if they're pregnant.

Yes. Then there would be calls to eliminate it
