What helped 50-year-old Asha Mandela pull through two heart attacks, cancer, and two strokes? Her hair, she believes. "Cutting it would be equivalent to suicide. It would be like being a zombie," the woman with the world's longest dreadlocks told the Daily Mail.

Her loccs are *amazing*!!! Not just stupendously long, but evidently in wonderful condition! Just beautiful!

Also, Clyde, did you happen to read them white folkses comments in the Comments section? Talk about un-happy campers! Really strange, all in all. The comments don't fit the picture of her beautiful, napptural hair, or the miracle that was her being able to keep her loccs, even through chemo! Odd stuff out of them...

Never mind. I just peeped that these are comments from yahoo site members. Them is some people who AIN'T able to love NUTHIN Black!

Something else. :) Not happy with that Sister's journey at all.

    One Love, and PEACE

Stupendously beautiful. I love it. The inner strength we have as people is simply amazing. I believe that our hair has something to do with our inner strength. Our bodies and minds are God given perfectly.

I would love to know what products she uses to keep her locks long and healthy. There's no breakage or split ends showing.

Bro. Wearing hair that weighs 40 lbs., 55 feet long as I said is beautiful. But, in reading the link about her being warned that it could paralyze her and she's disregarding all her doctor's warnings, I feel is foolish.
I know our hair is our crown in glory,but....I don't think I would let it be my reason for not living a more mobile existence.

Its a tough call butterfly#1, it really is; on the one hand, she perceives it's value, on the other hand, it could befall her ... :handsinair:

That is an amazing amount of hair. I've never seen anything like it and, from the picture, it does look healthy.

As for what doctors have told her of the physical damage her hair is causing, it's still her choice as to whether to heed their advice or not. I won't judge her for whatever decision she makes. Only she knows the value she places on her life.

Clearly, this woman believes that her hair has healing powers and it's a spiritual thing for her. Dreding her hair initially was for spiritual reasons, according to the article. And, because of that, I can understand her hesitation and resistance to cutting her hair. The power of our thoughts and beliefs is real. I think she believes her hair is what has kept her alive through all of her health issues. For all we know, that may be true. Too many people go around doing what others think they should do. All of us have the right to follow our own truths and decide our own destinies. For some, dying isn't the worst thing that can happen to you if you had to choose that over compromising what you believe in.
