What do you see when you look @ me?
who am I?
many of the mysteries that lurk
beneath a gaze of nonchalance you'll never know
simply know this...
I am Woman, I am Of all things... I am Blackness

Rugged texture of locks I wear in my hair
make people stare when I walk in a room
like here comes doom
then faces frown with disgust
questioning why I must sport such a look...
Hell, it's culture honey
ain't nothing dreadful bout it!

In the uniqueness of my African features I delight
facade, disguise? None!
Nothing in my mold did The Creator make european style chile
although this tone encompasses all spectrum of color
black, white, brown, red & yella
the entire human race can be traced to a reflection of my face
with exactness in Africa, the cradle of civilization
Within my womb blossoms life from 3-folds of Blackness
like the very matter of outer space gives birth to
galaxied, sun, moon & stars in constellations no man can number!

Sex appeal fills the slightest gestures I make
the swish of my hips, the way I lick my lips
voluptious in many ways
still be not presumptuous, thinking I'm simply for sex
Sexual, naturally
but likewise Spiritual and Intellectul
I'd rather have the fellas intrigued by my Spirit, my Mind
versus them staring, contemplating whether jelly or jam
creates the jiggle in my behind

If what man seeks is an object solely for sexual desire
then I'm not for hire
the regard in which I'm held must be lifted higher- Much Higher
though I'd gladly meet these things for my King
to birth, cook and clean isn't all that woman means..
Nor getting dolled up to be a fox that provokes no thought
Against the box of stereotypes created I rebel!
With this declaration comes mockery to my face,
they laugh and hoot to say little lady get back in your place...
I know what I'm saying
and understanding who I am
and I'll be damned if I let them tell or make me otherwise!!!

Queen Makeda, Nefertiti, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth
where's the proof?!
Queen Mother Moore, Angela Davis, Rosa Parks, Assata Shakur
am I sure?!
Original mothers great and grand
aunts, sisters, daughters that span
from one generation to another stood on front lines
fighting tooth and nail
to help entire nations prevail, in the midst of hell
WELL their essense & reflection is in me
that's why I ask what you see
cause evidently you're seeing things
if all you offer is disrespect to me

Take a closer look
open a history book
do whatever it takes to grasp what you mistook
to create more love, honor and respect for
Woman of Blackness
