Western-style multi-party democracy is possible but not suitable for Africa.

There are two forms of democracy. Democratic decisions can be taken by
majority vote, which is the Western form. It has the advantage of being
transparent, fast and efficient. But the downside is that it ignores minority
    positions.

The alternative is to take decisions by consensus. This has the advantage of
taking all minority positions into account.

However, the demerit is that it can take an awfully long time to reach a
consensus the larger the number of people involved. Nevertheless, the Nobel
Peace Committee and the World Trade Organization (WTO) all take decisions
    by consensus.

So too do many traditional African societies. Just because a group does not
take its decisions by voting does not mean they have no understanding of
    the essence of democracy.

In the early 1990s, following the collapse of the former Soviet Union, the
winds of change swept across Africa, toppling long-standing autocrats.

In our haste to democratize -- and also as a condition for Western aid -- we
copied and adopted the Western form of democracy and neglected to build
    upon our own democratic tradition.

The Western model allowed an elected leader to use power and the state
machinery to advance the economic interests of his ethnic group and exclude
all others: Kenyatta of Kenya and the Gikuyu, Moi of Kenya and the Kalenjin,
Biya of Cameroon and the Beti, Eyadema of Togo and the Kabye, to name a
    few.

Virtually all of Africa's civil wars were started by politically marginalized or
    excluded groups.

At Africa's traditional village level, a chief is chosen by the Queen Mother of
the royal family to rule for life. His appointment must be ratified by the
Council of Elders, which consists of heads of extended families in the village.

In governance, the chief must consult with the Council on all important
matters. Without this council, the chief is powerless. If the chief and the
Council cannot reach unanimous decision on an important issue, a village
meeting is called and the issue put before the people, who will debate it until
    they reach a consensus.

The village assemblies exist among various African tribes including: the
Ashanti of Ghana, the Igbo of Nigeria, the Somali, the Tswana of Botswana,
the Shona of Zimbabwe, the Xhosa and the Zulu of South Africa.

I saw the movie "Hero" with Jet Li, and I cried at the dedication to nationhood, and the end of tribalism and the Supreme Wisdom of that.

Kwame Nkhrumah wrote Africa Must Unite, and mysteriously drowned while swimming

Every continent on the planet had tribes of people, some got over and unified and some did not

But never in the history of the world were the entire race of one continent so terrorized, mutilated, genocided, enslaved, colonied, brutaly and robbed of the greatest amout of natural resources in the world, the way Africa was

There are some men and women who are in thier 30s and on appearance look as though they are in their teens, and prefer to live with mommy and daddy, and the comfort of their youth becuase adulthood takes courage and the ability to shed childish bullcrap that prevents adult like success

so as long as Black Africans, want to act like negroes and put the white man ahead of their own brother becuase their brother is of another tribe, and I said tribe not ethnic group,

as long as they hold that kind of mentality Africa will get no where

until they drop those childish notions of tribal xenophobia and just simply cut the mess and thnk race first they are and will be doomed.

So all this yada yada yada about

Ooohh we cant accept the white mans democracy cause.....

they need to remember that the Greeks got the science of democracy not form Democratus but from Ancient Africa

and like chemistry and physics, both old and quantum

    science
    has no color

Democracy is a science and folks need to stop making excuses of oooh I hate them Ns on the other side of the hill and realize

    as Malcolm X said

they are all catching the same hell,
and their enemy sits back and laughs as Africans, still play player hating games,
that make them weaker and weaker, and more open to the same exploitation over and over again

so either they get over that crap or face what is ahead

either they unify not just in the various nations,
    but embrace Pan Africanism

    or face the consequences

One of the African Proverbs I remember from my preteens was

There can be no enemy without if there is no enemy witihin

it amazes me at how a whole continent! the Eden of Life with it mighty warriors, kings, queens, scientist, its natural resources and with the richest history in the world could be exploited and belittled by such a tiny group of piss ant people is beyond me! Did they hoodwinked them/us like they did the Indians.. sort of? With their dirty blankets, little trinkets and their mind altering liquids and promises of of bullcrap….!

How can you get them to embrace Pan Africanism when they can't even face the enemy within! Until you can face your own personal enemy within and be deprogrammed from the bullsh*** they have been feeding us nothing will change! We/them need to learn how to embrace who and what we are.... the concept of Pan Africanism will always be on the back burner for the majority if they continue to wanna be like enemy.

according to John Jackson, Chancellor Williams, Julius Nyere, Cheik Anta Diop, Dr John Henrik Clarke, and Dr Leonard Jeffries, we have been over there doing the playa hater tribal war bullmess thousands of years,

before a white man lived in a home with a window or wore a shoe

    so brainwashed by who?

why ignore minority issues? as if that is something that cannot be changed?
an injury to one is an injury to all!

if all the people of a nation are catching the same hell from the same orpressor, then why not take into accout the various needs what ever they may be?

whooa now the white man is superman and forced these brothers who espoused Pan Africanism to turn a round and do this????

OK so realy who is to blame in that?
Pan Africanims solves that, and why marginalize someone that could be your blood cousin cause they are a different race? gimme a break,

in fact any one reading the writings of all of the Socialist Revoutionaries and Freedom Fighters against colonialism, said they had an almost as hard time getting rid of the caste type system of one tribe lording over another as if that is the way it should be,
and some paid wth their lives trying to stop that and bring about race based unity

(Dr john Henrik Clake, "African World Revolution")

The problem with the premis of this article, is that it echoes the claims of the Bell Curve crowd and other white supremists,
    that claim Black inferiority

and that Black inferioriy needs remediation,
they say Black children have Attention deficit disorder, so must be educated differently

as this article claims as the colonists did,
Africans do not have the capaity to be fair with their own Black neighbors,
so they need a remedial form of democracy

    man gimme break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now as an African I get ticked off about anyone regardless who
says something that seems whack, about the mindset of African people, and not to dig up dirt or character assassinate,
one must look closely and carefuly about who makes statements and accusations and what their motives and benefactors may be

George Ayittey (born 1945) is a Ghanaian economist, author and president of the Free Africa Foundation in Washington DC. He is a professor at American University,[1] and an associate scholar at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.[2] He has championed the argument that "Africa is poor because she is not free", that the primary cause of African poverty is less a result of the oppression and mismanagement by colonial powers, but rather a result of modern oppressive native autocrats.

So he lets the white man off the hook and blames the victim??!!!

now what exactly is the Foreign Policy Research Institute?

Daniel Pipes stated that the FPRI is an activist organization driven by its own ideology:

    "Put most baldly, we have always advocated an activist U.S. foreign policy; we have shared an abiding suspicion of the Soviet Union and other Communist states;

Now that was the republican line McCarthyist accusations against Kwame Nkhrumah and Patrice Lumuba, there fore as a Ghanian, ne must wonder what side of Kwame was he on, and in regards to lumumba , what side of socialism was he on

and we have always maintained a strong interest in the promotion of democracy, free-enterprise, and the rule of law. Perhaps most controversially, the professional staff is not shy about the use of force; were we members of Congress in January 1991, all of us would not only have voted with President Bush and Operation Desert Storm, we would have led the charge." [4]

So I will have to bite my tongue in regards to assumptions that unity among tribes is not going on,
and maybe folks like this guy and the corporate press are hiding that fact

it is possible , I do not know but it is,
and this realy is one of the reasons why I ask African born Africans here and those whose parents are,
what are the best African based and progressive African based websites and news sites ?, so that we can get the truth instead of the spin!
