Yes, the economic power game in the US has been ridiculous for some time. There is an article from 2003 that says 5th graders can learn accounting as well as collegians. When have you heard economists say that accounting should be mandatory in the schools?

I think that we are indoctrinated to think of economics in terms of Nationalism too much. We hear about Wealth of NATIONS. Of course this NATION belongs to the palefaces. European culture is designed to screw over most White people.
If you actually search Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations you will find that he used the word 'education' Eighty Times. Search for "and account" and find "read, write and account" multiple times. But in 1776 50% of Brits were illiterate. Americans do not have that excuse today.

I have so many issues with the educational process in the US. Children are not being prepared for the world at all as the curriculum is too outdated and lacks focus.
