Liberal Church May Lose Funds Over Sermon

November 08, 2005 12:15 AM EST

LOS ANGELES - The Internal Revenue Service has warned a prominent liberal church that it could lose its tax-exempt status because of an anti-war sermon a guest preacher gave on the eve of the 2004 presidential election, according to church officials.

The Rev. George F. Regas did not urge parishioners at All Saints Episcopal Church to support either President Bush or John Kerry, but he was critical of the Iraq war and Bush's tax cuts.

===========

This is a mostly white church, Liberal in their views but have the right attitude. From the Pulpit they support their members by preaching the things that will and need to be looked after and done. They took a stand against the Iraq war and the California voting issues Arnold have before us. They suported Cindy Sheehan, they had Desmond TuTu speak and visit last Sunday and speak often about civil rights issues. So the Feds are called in to help baby BUSH silence another voice in the wilderness.

Threating to take away their tax status..

Why don't black churches do more talking at the church and raising issues that effect us directly like this?

The church is the gathering place of decision making black individuals. It is the perfect place for us to discuss issues, political and economic. We are gathered. We go there to pray for change. Hope and relief from suffering. Keeping it silent and inside, holdinghands sometimes knowing how we are afraid that things are just going to get worse. ENOUGH!

Now GOD has to be given his worship hours, but knowing that important issues follow the sermon. Many would stay and hear out the issue of the week. It is something all black churches should practice and start doing. Holding the Tax exempt status over our head, and threatening to change the money flow is equivalent to being bought. NAACP and all black churches are sell outs to some degree for the welfare and fear of a challenge. It is a direct violation of rights to free speech. White churches have always discussed and held meetings related to town and city issues and never had their Tax status threatened. When they lynched blacks they met there to pass the bread and bow their heads and gave thanks for the issues discussed there.

Black have one chance to be heard and relate to the black masses. The church. :angel1: Satan fears anything that comes out of are that is truly affiliated with the church. He will crumble and flee.

A serman given at the church in honor of Rosa Parks.

Ed's invocation at the NAACP Annual Awards Dinner, Thursday, October 27:

O God of love and justice, we remember this night the life and witness of our sister, your servant, Rosa Parks.

We remember that by her act of courage on a bus that afternoon 50 years ago, she injected new meaning and dignity into the veins of civilization. We remember this night that she sat down in order that others might stand up We remember this night that she refused to cooperate any longer with unjust laws. We remember this night that she said, “The only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”

As we eat this meal tonight, O Lord, and enjoy the fellowship at our tables, we pray that you will bless this food and this fellowship, God, by making us, like our sister Rosa Parks, tired of giving in.
Make us tired of giving in, Lord, to the classism and racism in our country exposed by the winds of hurricane Katrina.
Make us tired of giving in, Lord, to this unjust war that has now taken the lives of over 2,000 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqis, and which rewards corrupt corporations, takes away civil liberties, and sets Christian against Muslim.
Make us tired of giving in, Lord, to tax cuts for the super wealthy that steal food from the poor and steal schools and health-care from everyone else.
Make us tired of giving in, Lord, to a life of timidity and insensitivity that does not live for liberty and justice for all.
Make us tired of giving in, Lord, to leadership that does not ask us to sacrifice so that the human race can become the human family.
For in living for others and in prayerful awareness of our dependence upon You and of our interdependence on one another will we truly be blessed.
All these things we pray in your holy name.
Amen.

Yes, indeed. Amen.

Separation of Church and State!

Is no longer valid. Bush and all GOP Christian rights advocates preach all the time during political campaigns. Shoving their views into politics like they were married to it. Funding a tax law that support’s the church and :bam: telling them to keep quiet is blackmail.

Don't discuss economic issues, don't discuss health issues, abortion rights issues and then they calling on all the black preachers ( here is some support money - if you don't get involved ) that they believe support and represent us is a hypocritical control tactic.
