The jungle {the bush} was my playground

    Like the cheetah
    I ran to the
    Thump...thump...thump
    Of Africa's drum beat

Grass and dirt beneath my feet

    Then the pale man came
    ...The ghost of a man
Who stole ME...herded ME like animals
    To a faraway land

I felt the sting of the dead snake
As it laced across my back
    ...Biting into my skin
...Told I was less than dirt
    I wasn't a man

    I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND

    GOD of my father
Why did YOU let this happen to me

    WHAT DID I DO

My playground {the bush} was no more

    Where did the drumbeat go
I didn't know why the pale man did me so
    Where was my family

The big water tossed me to and fro
    Forward and back

    I was sick
    ...Had no refuge
    From the cruelty of he
Who did this thing to me

    At night, I lay
    Side-by-side with my brother
    Stricken by hunger
    Stronger…was my thirst for {the bush}

    WHERE WAS THE LAND

    I saw my brothers
    Thrown into the waters
    Fed…
    Like food
    To the big fish

    I saw my sisters
    Used and abused
    Beaten…
    When they refused
    ...Still used.

    I wish for the jungle {the bush}

    I SAW

    Women screaming
    And men crying
    Who do not cry
    ...Do not scream

    Many things {I saw}

My fight for freedom was one of futility
So I ran to be free
Why did GOD let this happen to me
…Allow them to make a slave of me

    CHAINED

    Robbed of my dignity
    A curiosity
    To contemplate
    ...To conversate over
    But whether anyone knows
    There are those who would see you {me}
Across that sea we crossed so long ago

The bush {the jungle} was my playground.

Will I hate forever…never to know peace from my hostility
Will I get beyond what he's done to me

    Will I?

As the rising sun sets beyond my burning rage
Will I know a day...a time…when my heart hurts no more
    Who will settle the score
...Erase the tears of my fears
Shed over years of heartache and misery
    {Who will remember me}

Who will stand for me…besides me
Help to shatter the story of my history

    Is there another Malcolm
    Or Martin

Will Garvey or Evers give rise to another soldier
    To win us over
That we might follow their drum beat

    Will you DIE for me

Will Rosa's descendents erect another tale of a bus
…Tell another bus driver they refuse to get up

Will thousands rise to be assassinated
    By those who hate us
Only to be replaced by thousands more

    Who will open the door

    Who will make their way
    Through the gook and muck
That's messed us over all these years

Who will walk through the tears of my foremothers
    My brothers
    My sisters

    Who?

ALLOW ME TO TAKE THAT FIRST STEP.
    To face my foes...head on
That he might feel the strength
    Of my forefathers.

    ALLOW ME.

    I have soaked in tears
I have raged on for years
I have come to a crossing in the road
    NOW I KNOW
    What must be done

    I am the one
The one to move ME forward
The one to tow the line
The one who will defend the release of my peace
And make the world a better place

    Yes...I am the one.

I will run to the beat of Africa's drums once more
I will play on my playground beyond the shore

    Hear me.

yet the heart is stronger then ever

Freedom and the return to the landz of da beat

To have such questions and imagines...

compound torture for the stolen and enslaved

    “I was sick
    ...Had no refuge
    From the cruelty of he
Who did this thing to me

    At night, I lay
    Side-by-side with my brother
    Stricken by hunger
    Stronger…was my thirst for {the bush}

    WHERE WAS THE LAND

    I saw my brothers
    Thrown into the waters
    Fed…
    Like food
    To the big fish

    I saw my sisters
    Used and abused
    Beaten…
    When they refused
    ...Still used.”

    Powerful imagery!

Wordy or not, the ride was well worth it.
Keep doing you, loving what you do and sharing,
because it makes others feel good too.
