"The Aim of an Argument should not be victory, but progress".. - Joseph Joubert (1754-1824)
Would this be yet about great debate or thread of arguments here at Destee? Maybe, maybe not.
Personally I can say there is a volume of knowledge at this site that has changed my mind about what I believe. Many of you Brothas and Sistahs of deep introspective knowledge, are perhaps changing the world right here with your words. I thank all of you...
With that being said...
Why are we mad at Oprah?
I've been upset with Oprah for some time now. Upset, not because she is the richest Black Woman in America. Not because she has more power than most small countries in the world. Or not because she has used her childhood pain as a springboard to wealth.
I've been upset with Oprah for not healing, yet asking millions of Women to heal. If Oprah were truly healed she would be living a life beyond the scope of her fame and career. She has never struck me as a Woman who can have an unprofessional romantic relationship with a Man, which is a sign of blockage and pain.
She has actually raised a "Beyonce" culture maybe. Independent Survivor Sistahs, who make sure you know how "replaceable" you are.
Don't get me wrong. I love our strong Sistahs. And I know the Black Goddess must rise. These times call for our Women to rise. But I do critize Women who rise up only to drop-kick Brothas in the back of the neck.
If I am wrong please correct me.
I've been upset with Oprah for using White feminism in America as her weapon of Mass distraction. Upset because she is a role model, but if our Women truly modeled what Oprah is, our Black nation would die in a heartbeat.
But I am not upset with Oprah for opening up 2 Schools in South Africa. I've heard several arguments around the net, where Brothas and Sistahs are very upset about Oprah opening up schools there, while there is so many poor here.
For once I do agree with Oprah. Many children here want more playstations and money, than education. "Our" children in South Africa want Education.
So who are we to tell an Billionaire what to do with her money? In the same light, who am I to question her ability to heal, and what business marriages she arranges in order to grow her empire? We already know there are questions about her sexuality. Should Oprah really be a model for young Black women?
If Black America could focus, we could make over 500 Billionaires who serve our self interests.
But is Oprah really doing a bad thing? Whats so terrible about opening Schools in South Africa. Obviously White Americans are angry with Oprah too. Ironically, I don't remember that much protest when Madonna adopted an African baby for her collection. I guess it's fine to "save" Black babies from a condition, than to use money to make those conditions- better?
What's your take on this one Family?
