Watchdog: Hate groups entering military Washington | July 07, 2006 12:01:13 AM IST A U.S. watchdog group reportedly claims hate groups such as neo-Nazis have been infiltrating the military by taking advantage of recruiting deficits. The claims have been made by The Southern Poverty Law Center, reports The New York Times. The infiltration is occurring despite Pentagon's zero-tolerance policy for racist hate mongers. Using estimates made from interviews with Defense Department investigators and racist Web site postings, the group says thousands of racists may have entered the military, reports the Times. The Southern Poverty Law Center said military recruiters are under pressure to meet quotas because of the growing unpopularity of the war in Iraq, the Times says. We've got Aryan Nations graffiti in Baghdad, the group quoted a Defense Department investigator as saying. That's a problem. A Defense Department spokeswoman declined comment saying her office had not seen the group's report.
