teach them "it don't matter what "they" say: I know who/what I am and i'm gonna be that regardless!"

course, this means that the parents gotta be that kinda strong in themselves first ... and from the looks of things ...

"Know thyself" don't mean chasing some questionable "history". after all; if all that "history" had been about anything, we wouldn't be in the mess we in, eh?

The real question(s) to be answered: What can and should be expected from folk who aren't the positive reflections of 'love for (their) selves'?

    Methods need to be changed...

    I. e., the means reveal the ends, and should be worth the effort...

We need to be a part of new efforts at personal/collective empowerment...

    Evolution/growth/progress:

Isn't that what life is supposed to be about?

    FYI...

(the bit that i actually want to reply to is lost to this post because it is buried in my quote in your post. color- and text changes do make it easier to see where comments have been added, but they can not be used in a subsequent reply unless one wants to go through some shenanigans to pull the bit out.)

(i think it was something like: ) "implied or explicit criticism": expending bunches of energy talking about the past while the present keeps rolling on like a steam roller right over the top of us only "produces" something for future energy wasters to talk about. do something NOW!

entirely too vast to pick and choose any "specifics". the general case should be enough to give anybody that does critical thinking all the ammo one would need to understand.

"looking back to move forward" indeed - not terribly useful ... until "today's" actions get far enough behind us to be seen ... by which time it is too late to affect them for any sort of positive benefit of value to "today".

What IS the true nature of what we consider 'black culture' in the states?

It seems and and sounds like whatever fad/trend/etc. is popular at the moment...

    That's not good enough!
