A law school professor and former criminal defense attorney tells you why you should never agree to be interviewed by the police......even if your lawyer is present!!! This isnt directly related to race but very interesting none the less. maybe it is indirectly given how many of our people are incarcerated, many innocent, many serving a sentence disproportiante to their crime. Interestingly (but not suprisingly) the examples of innocent people who pled their innocence but were still convicted are both black.

The first video is the lawyer explaining why you shouldnt speak to police from a legal prospective and he then hands over to a police officer who confirms everything he said from a law enforcement prospective.

The second video is another lawyer giving short 6 minute summation of what the lawyer said in the first video.

The third video is the police officer section from the first video incase you want to watch that first as its shorter.

Note that the cop in the last video admits he thinks people are stupid. And, he believes that if he brought someone in to interview them, with maybe a couple of exceptions over 20 years, they were guilty. He freely admitted he was allowed to, and did, lie to get a confession. And, he admitted what cops know which is that jurors usually assume the guy sitting next to the defense attorney is guilty unless proven innocent.

Police are not the good guys. They are arrogant, self-righteous, hypocrites, IMHO.

All of which helps explains why so many black folks go to jail. Our criminal justice system is purposefully designed to convict most of the people the cops bring in for interviewing --- whether you are actually innocent or guilty. And, with so many cops and neighborhood watch nazis apprehending black people for no reason other than that they look suspicious, most of those black people end up being convicted.

Keeping your mouth shut unless your attorney is present is one way to try and add a little, just a little, parity to the game.

I would have thought this was standard knowledge.

It should be, but you get people that fall into that trap phrase of, "If you have nothing to hide then...", and then they go yeah, I didn't do a thing and go and deliver a novel to them and that's when they get what they want, enough to twist what you say for a "victory" because that is all it is for them whether they have the right person or not. Prosecution is all about conviction rate to progress a prosecutor's career and nothing more. And unfortunately the easiest targets are those of color due to the history of this nation.
