I don't know if this has been posted or not here already (if so then please merge/close thread-thanks)....

In Stephenstown, NY; over 300 [mainly white] teens/young adults broke into a large home. There was extensive damage totaling more than $20,000 as well as things being stolen. Here are the articles:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kelly...parents-of-the-stephentown-300_b_3983962.html
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...hed-hundreds-partying-teens-article-1.1460006

Now, if it was 300 black or latin kids who broke into somewhere and vandalized, destroyed and robbed the place then public opinion would've been drastically different. Most ppl see this as a cutesy little innocent event and most opinions are along the lines of 'teens will be teens' and 'they're just having fun'. The homeowner themselves actually went out of their way for arrests not to be made of the flash mobbers. This is a great example of a double standard.

So what is your opinion on this?

Peace Whatneedstobedone,

I get what you are implying... the famous, "if-it-woulda-been-black-people" line of thought... but in order for it to be a "double standard" their would need to be a similar incident involving black people.. right?

and.. and.. where do you get the idea that their is any single standard through which all happenings are evaluated? There are as many opinions as their are individuals.. and anyone that claims to know "public opinion" is selling something.

- Peace again..

This happens all of the time. Does anyone remember when the white Canadians were rioting after some hockey game, and the news tried to portray it as some beautiful love story? And then, riots started up in London the same year, and every black and dark person seen was labelled an animal and a criminal.

It's always cutesy when it's their own, but downright barbaric when it's anyone else. :11900:

How can you say most feel this is "cutesy"?

How can you back that statement up?

That seems to be the major point of your thread.

What you posted was a blog..One person's opinion.

The other was a real news clip.

The homeowner didn't press charges. I think he is a a hippie peace loving moron..but I guess that is his right.
