Black People Politics : White candidate pretends to be black to win election

In the Spirit of Deceptive Politics,

White candidate pretends to be black to win election

Dave Wilson is white. But to win a seat on the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in a district predominantly comprised of African-American voters, Wilson, a conservative Republican, led voters to believe he was black.

According to CBS affiliate KHOU-TV, Wilson's direct mail campaign included a flier with smiling black faces he says he found on the Internet. "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson," the accompanying text read.

In another flier, the text said he had been endorsed by Ron Wilson, a popular black former state representative. But the Ron Wilson who endorsed him was Dave's cousin Ron, not the ex-lawmaker.

"He's a nice cousin," Wilson told the network, chuckling. "We played baseball in high school together."

Nevermind his cousin lives in Bloomfield, Iowa, some 940 miles from Houston.

On Tuesday, Wilson defeated Bruce Austin, the 24-year incumbent, by a margin of just 26 votes.

Austin, who is African-American, called Wilson's tactics "disgusting."

He is a no-good bum. I believe the fact that he did not put his face on the flier showed that he had something to hide. Something should be done. He should charge with some kind of offence...not sure what:(

But what's the take away dunwiddat? As a people, we are new at engaging in politics, correct? Let's settle on this, we've got to involve ourselves, totally, inside the political landscape of this country we inherited, can we touch and agree on that basis of fact?

The lengths some will go thru for politic gain. How can he be trusted in the position he won, if he started out cheating and lying?
SMH!!!

If you can, play the video, the whole thing was a joke, he wasn't serious and didn't think he would win, but he did.

This circles back to my earlier comments:
