Where I’m from

Where I’m from we search for answers we cannot find

Like will I ever escape this place

Or be forced into a life of crime

Where I’m from you either sell drugs or fall victim to drugs

It’s tough love

I didn’t remember kisses and hugs

Where I’m from you had to fight just to make down the street

The gang bangers could smell fear and would separate the strong from the

weak

If you weren’t an athlete chances are you’re a casualty

Seeing your child on channel three

Would drive you to insanity

Where I’m from it seems like the cops didn’t care

But maybe in reality the cops where just as scared

The media has called me a thug, a criminal or crazy

But I didn’t ask for this to life

This is what you gave me

And killing off my own kind is another form of slavery

Will we ever be free

Where I’m from
