under the sun
he said in dreams
he could be anything
but he was chasing
his dreams in all
the wrong places
marijuana induced hallucinations
produced in him
a desperation
to find a better place to be

he looked at the world
through glassy eyes
that never quite
focused on anything
mistakenly thinking
he could handle "it"

when he started
using speed as a one way ticket
to utopia
looking for paradise
in a little pill
he thought he was still
in control

so he made an unconscious decision
to rise to a higher level of dreaming
chasing a stream of white powder
across a polished surface
on a daily basis
going to places only he could go
but the return trip
wasn't quite the same
nor was the pain that came
with it

pain that lasted for too long
until his body got tired
from the wear and tear
of so many journeys
so he took a different route
shooting up among the stars
and his dreams changed
rearranged themselves into nightmares
and the winged demons came to call
utopia/paradise disappeared
replaced by fears
crawling through his mind
in the night hours
sending him to the edge of sanity
confusing his thought process

until reality didn't exist
and he lived in a misty world
of twisted dreams and silent screams
and his only way out
was to fly with the demons
on wings of broken dreams
screaming screaming screaming
until he reached his utopia
a place of forever dreaming
now he sleeps
peacefully
