    Where are the fathers?

I see them in the early morning hours
    Struggling in the snow
    On hot rush hour streets
Struggling with a bag of groceries
    Carrying one
    And sometimes three
    Will be stumbling behind her
Rushing trying to beat the rain
Stressed because of the situation she’s in
    For a moment of pleasure
    Now a lifetime of pain
    Half dragging half pulling
    Fussin’ and cussin’
    At the likkle boy
    To keep him in line
    Sometimes the children are crying
    Their noses are runnin’
    Tired and half asleep
Being dragged to the bus stop
    Missing another bus
Trying to get there before its too late
    Because they close at eight
Now unscheduled bull **** at the day care
Job’s on the line can’t be late again
As we see her struggling in the wee hours of the morning
Leaving the babysitter after working 3 to 11
    Out there all alone
    ****! Another missed bus
They huddle together in the bus stop
To keep warm from the wind and rain
And from the cold and snow
When you see her struggle . . . Don’t put her down
    Ask yourself
    Where are the fathers?

Anwar Aswad Ami ... beautiful poetry ... you paint the picture as
though you were there ... standing at the bus stop with us.

i am going to move this to the poetry forum
so it can get the kind of love it deserves.

    thanks for sharing.
