When I was nine and you were all mine
Mom and Dad you divorced
Family you couldn't come through
When I was ten big brother it was then
that you ran away not to return
until it was a much older day for me
You couldn't come through
Mom you tried and you loved me true
but you couldn't stay home
your heart and body needed to roam
you left me home alone
You couldn't come through
When I was 17 and been working for 3 years
Dad I couldn't assuage your fears
that I knew just what to do if you signed the car note
You couldn't come through
When I was 18 and about to begin the education of my life
and you all made me promise school
You couldn't come through
Mom you were sorry you had to move away
for fear he wouldn't stay with you
Dad you asked me to sign a note to the court
saying there was no more need for your child support
You couldn't come through
When I was 19 and pregnant my first time
Mom you now lived with him and you said
there was no more room at the Inn
You couldn't come through
Dad you said you'd been there before
with my step-sister at your door
You couldn't come through
Baby I am so sorry for my whole life through
I will always regret I didn't give birth
and I still love you
But I couldn't come through

But through this all I learned
Love is about being there
Showing (not saying) you care
Relying on self
But giving to others
Not just mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers
But all of our friends and mankind too
All any of us have in life
is just me and you
And especially for our children
It is all about coming through

A heartfelt piece

I had a talk with a friend just yesterday
about the importance of having someone
who will be there for you...for whatever
reason...to hug, listen, encourage etc.

Sometimes the smallest gesture can
have the greatest impact.

This piece is gold
