When we used to break dance
on street blocks back in the days
Life seemed to not to slip away
or be taken away from us so fast
Those glorious times of our past
bring me beautiful memories of our
communities living in peace and
tranquility, instead of pain and misery
When we used to break dance we
advanced towards elevation
Sacred was our creation
that brought about progress-full
nations of black people
Memories of break dance groups
battling for supremacy outshine
the negativity and chaos of
ghetto streets
Instead of wars with weapons
we used to go at it with the magic
and rhythm of our hands and feet
We used to pop, lock and
top rock, while a boom box
blasted the classic Planet Rock
Nonstop we flexed on linoleum
and card board
Never getting violent and
on one accord
Way before guns and
drugs floored our existence
When we used to break dance
We were a happier and livelier people
Free of the evil that now plagues our
society
Before we began to slang crack
and buss gats
We wore shirts with our names
on the back
The glory of getting’ busy was
where it was truly at
I remember back then when
we brothas acted more like kin
and never sought revenge when
we didn’t win
We took it like men knowing
that the next day it was on again
When those days came to an end
our progress began to descend
