    When I woke up
    The smoke was still there.
Evil disguised as soot, still filled the air.
Smiles and laughter were replaced by depression, despair.
    When I woke up.
The tears on many cheeks were still fresh.
Because of many souls gone to glory, leaving hollow flesh.
In heavenly peace, they will forever rest.
    When I woke up.
I saw in the sky, the clouds now blood stained.
I saw what once stood proudly, and now what remains.
I saw the bond of a nation, and how life will be maintained.
    When I woke up.
I saw people from all sorts
    Ready to report
    To duty for one cause.
    And I had to pause.
Rub my eyes to see if this was a dream.
Were people with different skin tone holding hands and singing
    Let freedom ring?
    When I woke up,
My forehead bore the sweat from a nightmare taken place.
I rubbed my eyes but they continue to sting like I was sprayed with mace.
    When I woke up
I wanted to believe that it was only a dream
Because I didn’t have the answer to what this all means.
So I hugged my pillow tight
As my brain soared wild like a brisk wind behind a kite.
Because even though my spirit was shaken,
My faith will never be taken.
In God we will trust, and in my heart I will keep.
I’m awake now, never again will I sleep…….

    dreamin

You are so right, I still feel that I am trapped in some sort of nightmare that really didn't happen, but it did, and we have to have even stronger faith now.
