    encouragement may not speak
to me tonight when most i need
    to be inspired by
    innate stanzas prompting
    that which moves inside
    of me causing self
    to shrivel up and die

when i think of what i've lost
    i'm seemingly sensing the erosion
    of something sacred leaving
    from your idled eyes

    you broke the silence
    with the moist lick
    of your lips and
    a perplexing sigh
    that fell stiff
    into the cracks
    between wooden
    floorboards
    those same sighs
    escorted you slowly
    to the front door
    ..."find yourself and you'll
    find me" was all that
    you would say
    but my heart heard
    much more
    before you disappeared
    into the chrysallis of december

when i think of what i've lost
    i am quarantined
    inside of yesterday's
    burdensome search
    in this shamefully regressive
    room of myself
    in isolation
    trying to console this
    solace of a mass that
    occupies
    time and grief

    what i wanted most was
    the woman you used to
    wrap safely inside
    your arms when Helios
    would crash into
    the atlantic
    night after night
    ... but she's eloped
    into the captivity of
    mankind ~ sleeping
    with comfortable
    strangers ...
    content lying
    next to discontentment

when i think of what i've lost
    i separate from the relationship
    i separate from the past
    i separate from you
    and realize what i've lost
    is only me

    Oh my goodness...

have we had a conversation on this topic? You have taken my thoughts and emotions (well, at least borrowed them ;) ) and formulized a piece that speaks volumes. I'm in awe!!!

    Well done...

    Your fan

The Whole Thang Is Terrible Tight...but

The hook totally sums the whole matter...

when i think of what i've lost
    i separate from the relationship
    i separate from the past
    i separate from you
    and realize what i've lost
    is only me

This is definitely one of my favorites of yours. Reading this poem, reminded me of the great move of God among black women thru one of Juanita Byum's sermon...NO MORE SHEETS!

    Joyce is watching you.

    N2,

been there before gurl, but, thank God, we grow in grace and wisdom and it becomes easier to hold onto self even in the midst of sharing with others.
