Over the years I've become quite vigilant about ingredients in my products. It started with food items and it's branched into the hygiene and beauty products that I purchase. As a new mom I'm very strict about the "baby products" that I use on my son. Well meaning people gifted him with Johnson's baby products but I knew immediately from reading the labels that I wouldn't bathe my baby with that stuff. Also petroleum products like Penetene which many people put on to prevent diaper rash are unnecessary additives on your childs skin. And when it comes to their private areas my philosophy is that natural is best, meaning if there's nothing wrong don't use anything on them! The anus and gentials are far to sensitive to absorbtion of chemicals that potential damage fertility in young children. Baby powder, aka TALC is moderately hazardous to a human's health - so much so that those that work to produce it have to wear protective clothing! And it's the main ingredient in over the counter eye shadows and eyeliners! Arrghhh.... I enjoy wearing eye makeup so I'll have to find alternatives sources, if anyone knows of a non-toxic product please let me know.

I like the following website because it allows you to look up ingredients or a whole product. The Website Skin Deep covers quite a range of common products from shampoos, mouthwash, shaving creams, etc.... You'd be surprised what's really in that!

phynxofkmt,

Great topic you have here my new found Friend! As a brand new mother, it figures you would take every precaution :), also, breast feeding is the most natural and sound way of building the babies immune system, and highly recommended.

Recently, my Friend brown_hOrnet shared the down side and far reaching affect that Fluoride has on the body. You may want to look deeper into that chemical, if you are not already informed. Take care phynxofkmt.
