I don’t mean to hurt you
    But, I can’t turn back
    Anything that was “WE”
Is now on the “ worn and used” rack
    And, with my heart,
    I can’t play up and down See-Saw
So, please, let’s just call it a draw
Cuz whatever we had is gone

    Truly, I hold no animosity
    And, for your NEXT woman
    I’ll have no curiosity
    As to who she is
And I won’t give you any scorned-woman quiz
On what she looks like or if she makes love to you like I did
No, I won’t do any of those things. Cuz I just want to RID
Myself of the scent of you when you’re not there
I want to banish the quick-appearing specter
Of you in my unexpected peripheral air
    And in time, I will
    But, in the mean-time
I don’t want to suck on a bitter pill
    Of who did what
Or whose heart was the first cut
Because whatever we had is gone
And I just want you to leave me alone

Let’s leave each of us with a score-card
Counting the highlights that, once, did define us
Instead of the all the lows and every point-subtracted minus
    On each play
    Cuz we had our day
But, whatever we had is gone.

Sounds like a PLAN to Me
Cause in this program of Recovery
It's the old that passes away
Clearing the air for a brand new Day

Doing Me whilst you do you
No cause for sad no, I ain't blue
    bout it

For you ain't but said a word
    This story was already told
Gone maybe for YOU yet NEVER
    for ME
what makes you think you held the
    Key
    to OUR Collective Livity?

What you seem to not UNDERSTAND
EVERY DANG THING IS BOUT THE MOTHER LAND
    AFREEKA AND BEING AFREEKAN
and the ish you bring....just didn't fit in
    for M.E.
    MAMA EARTH

YES GOD DANG IT...I get to describe MY birth
    right
    just like You Do
Wasn't nobody ever talkin bout you
    till YOU started too

    Yeah..you was twisting and spittin
Working like the rest of the crew
Everybody up in here getting things all mis-construed
Cause we STILL have many barriers, there's still ground to be gained
But **** IT I ain't mad at ya
Glad this foolishment done come to end
    BE GONE!

I hear the beauty and tragedy of
    "love" lost
and the stories told in poetry or floetry

As I read this a second time I'm HEARING A WHOLE NOTHER ANGLE and
    application to a shyuation....

    probably...your 'intent' in penning it!

living in another space or moment in time

Just to let you know....I'm NOT "stuck on stupid" and DO see many sides of the same story told....

Removing myself out of the midst of distress
No longer do I seek your caress
For what we once shared is now a heap of mess
And I'm willing to step off and leave you to be Blessed

With the opportunity to find your next new whatever
My heart is now light as a feather
No longer must We toil with trying to stay together
Glad we have both weathered....the storms of what we had
    Love that's now gone

    Thank you, Lataisha and Rich!

I often associate music to poetry. Sometimes, I write a piece to a song. This poem was patterned for Barry White's "Whatever We Had, We Had."
